Im looking for another decent non noise cancelling power mike for my 2970 DX. My turner plus 2 handmike is a little too "wild" for the radio and i was looking into something like an astatic..... Any suggestions>??????

You hit the nail on the head 808, I have used that same mic on all my mobiles for years. It is a great mic.

Excellent choice. The Astatic 575 won't give you that screechy high pitched tinny sound the way that the D-104 desk mics do.

I'm curious to know why your Turner +2 is "too wild" for your 2950. Are you using this radio mobile or as a base? If you're using it mobile, then just about any power mic will be "too wild" since it can pick up all kinds of back ground noise if it's turned up too high. Especially in a mobile.

Im looking into either the D 104 handmike or the 575... I have 2 Turner plus 3 handmikes (a JM +3 and a black Jm+3) that are new in the box that i will try on the 2970 and see how well they work.. I run the stock mike now but dont care for it.. Its not loud enough for me..

RCI 2990 , I use on my Mobil the D104M6C and I love it, will lots of good reports on the other end, also I run the D104 Tug 8 and 9 on the Bases, they are a wonderful microphone when used right.

All a power mic does is add a gain stage between the mic element and the mic amp inside the radio. Since the radio already has a near identical amplification stage inside of it, a qualified tech should be able to manipulate the gain characteristics of the mic amp and give you much the same thing.

In most cases when these radios are properly worked, you end up with TOO much audio and start picking up a lot of background noise. That's why most guys with "big radios" are using RK 56B's and Astatic 636's. One can crank the audio gain of the radio way up and due to the lack of sensitivity in the mic element, you don't pick up all the background noise. So long as one can discipline themselves to use proper mic technique, these mics coupled with a proper tune-up are both VERY loud and quite clean.

Other than that, if you MUST use a power mic, i agree with the others. That is, the 575 sounds far more natural with greater adjustability / versatility than any of the other "battery operated" mics out there.

Fancypants, i know what a power mike does and i know how to use one. I was just asking for a few opinions on a decent mike to get to use on my radio. Not to sound rude but i was not really looking for a lecture on what a power mike does for my radio and what i need to have done to my radio to make it sound good. TY very much sir.... Have a great day!

Hey RCI 2990. Heres a suggestion on posting a post on mikes and radios. Never use the words Power mike, modulation limiter, loud radio, and tuning all in the same sentence then you will not get a lecture on how to use the radio! LOL!!
