Well, what had happened was... Okay, I had a stray RF problem a while back (mag-mount for antenna) and fried the amplification in my astatic mic. The element still works and I still use the mic but it has no punch anymore. The volume and tone still work but it just doesn't sound right with the volume turned up more than it was when it worked right. Has anyone ever tackled this problem? Thanks |

I forgot to mention the smell of burning electronics and the squealing sound on that fateful day when I keyed the mic. Thanks Allagator! I will test the cord for continuity. |

Znut If all else fails, just replace the two little audio amplifier transistors. One of them is probably dead. There should be a pair of them and have the same numbers on them. I had a D-104 desk mic brought to me once that had non-working transistors in it. I just replaced them with a pair of very common general purpose c945 transistors and it worked fine. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

I thought Copper carried new mic cartridges/elements. That is my next step after I replace the transistor. By the way, the 575 has one 2N5484 and a couple caps(which are probably for the tone control, which works.) My fear after opening the mic is that smoke came out of the front and the mic is pretty well sealed. |
