it means your battery is grounded using the neg terminal NEG connected to the chassies of the truck THIS IS NORMAL.

My inlaws' 1947? 8N Ford tractor that has the positive lead from the battery going to the chasis and the negative lead going to starter. Hence, positive ground.

TRUE ! and in the 50's not only did you have that a lot of cars ran on 6 volts! THAT is why cb sets had seperat powersupplys for moble or if you bought a radio with one built in you had to pick the right one. The HE-15 had EXTERNAL MOBLE VIBRATOR SUPPLY pick 6, 12 or neg or pos ground. The HE-20 cb sets came in several ver. With solid state this would been a nightmare today!
