Hello, I have Cobra 2000 gtl base station and every website says to cut R131 for increased modulation but before and after the mod I read 8 watts on a dosy meter. Everyone told me I would get 15-25 watts? What's wrong? I set my dead key at 2 watts if it matters. Also I'm a new CBer so please keep the terminalogy simple. |

put it back in. broadcasters pay into the thousands for limiters. i would suggest getting a pwr mic to driving the limiter harder, and getting an amp behind that radio for more power |

This limiter deal is soooooo overrated IMHO.. But ill say this from exp removing the limiter in the 2000 has NO AFFECTS on wattage at all.. You will not gain anything watts wise... |

Infmotor You're in the wrong section of this forum for radio questions. Go to either "Ask The Tech" section or the "Modifications" section. You will get plenty of answers there. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

I thought it was tr24 or tr25 limiter. Dont cut the resistors. AM they do about 12 watts SSB 18 max. Unless you do a npc mod or put 12 volts to the finals, which sure cuts down on life. |

Crafter on AM with the good npc mod, the finals run cooler as less AM carrier is necessary. Ive seen no ill effect unless the radio is run over 15v on SSB |

I agree with the general opinion to put those resistors back in place. If you want to sound better it is a simple thing. Just use a very good mic and an equalizer to tweak it so you sound "Smooooootttthhhhh". |

No I wasnt talking about the NPC mod I was talking about adding 12 volts to the finals. I have seen people just add 12 volts to the finals on a switch, which burns them out earlier. Never seen a NPC mod on a 2000 but mine works fine on my voyage. |

Well thats part of the mod on the 2000. Be silly to not do the mod with the volting on am as finals would only last seconds. It is quite common on amateur radio gear for the final collector to be permanently connected to the radio positive in. Theres probaly more to that in other mods done, why they burn out earlier. the drive levels or heatsinking probaly isnt right or too high a carrier component in there is the real reason. |
