Just came across a 1011c Silly. It works well and I just wanted to know what if anything can be done to boost it up. |

Should do about 200 watts on ssb what else you need? If you dont know keep the gain down on AM or it will not work right. Many say you cant talk AM I did, not alot of power but I talked. |

Crafter The Siltronix 1011Cs and Ds have a single 8950 tube used for the final. They were not capable of 200 watts of SSB output power. For todays Siltronix owners, the 8950 final tube is getting very difficult to easily find. When the 8950 supply does dry up, (and it will), you can retrofit the 6HF5 on board using the proper circuit mods (described in the 80's vintage ARRL Book "Hints and Kinks for the Radio Amateur). Another popular retrofit tube is the 6LB6. But neither one of these are capable of 200 watts PEP output power either. The Siltronix power supply could never handle the draw. However, there were some 1011Cs and Ds that were fitted with after market heavy duty transformers and tubes that could hit the 200 watt mark. These were heavily modified by a Fairfield, California Technician. There is an excellent Siltronix home page on the Net that tells of the history of those amazing radios of the early 80s. Well heck you guys!!! It does do about 200 on my PDC 700 so I guess its OK. It seems to talk really good on A M and SSB so i guess I will leave it alone. Does anyone know where I can get a manual for it?? |

This radio does not have a 8950 in it so I guess it has been modded. Thanks for the info!! |

Yea my 1011d does around 200 on mine too but you know how meters are. 8950's gone I got a box full of 8950's and 6lf6's from buying broken palomars and pulling tubes I'll never run out. Bet I got 15 banana boxes of misc tubes some new some not but all checked and packaged. Bought them from several radio shops with equip. when they got out of it. |

Hey Crafter. If you have new-in-the-box 8950s, you could get a pretty good price for them on Ebay. Jeff. |
