A cb buddy of mine is picking up a lot of noise from his truck. He is driving a Dodge pickup with a Cobra 25 st/nt radio. It seems to only be a problem when the engine is runnig (3 extra s units of noise),Probably the fuel pump or some thing related.
I have heard a inline filter will not do the job?
Any advice would be helpful. |

What type of antenna and how\where is it mounted? Are the power wires connect directly at the battery or fuse box? Is th radio and antenna properly gounded?
More info would be helpful. |

The best noise / in-line filters I have found and use are the "Magnum DC Power Line Filters"
These filters are nice as they hook directly to your battery and have a three pin radio plug that hooks directly to you radio, replaceing you power cord.
On our new Ford Super Crew with the Triton V-8 engine we ran into the same problems.
Copper will be carrying them but they are back ordered right now.
there are Two Models the:
#PLF10-C Filter/Powercord Combo 3-Pin,
for most all three pin radios.
#PLF-10M Filter/Powercord Combo for MAGNUM Radios
Also Check for a Good Ground, Coax, and Antenna, and go to Battery for power.

Sorry fellas on the lack of info. He is using a magnet mount on the top of his cab with a valor (all terr.)1/4 wave whip. The magnet is a chrone 5'' magnet mount. He has the hot wire in the fuse box at an empty space(auto door lock) which he does not have. the coax and mount look to be in excellent shape, swr is 1.1 and output is good.

Jim,
Also have him check his Dodge Dealer and have the Service Dept to run a check and see if thier has been a service memo on his model.
On our 96 Impala SS they had one to replace the in tank fuel pump and that solved it.

have him run the wires straight to the battery with an inline filter and see if that helps. Its a place to start.

I have a dodge pickup with a wilson 5000 mounted on top of my cab, I run a connex 4800dxl, and mine has the hot wire direct to the battery, and I have no noise problems whatsoever. Maybe the fuel pump is going bad? Get the wire out of the fuse block will probably do the trick. |

This is 41 magnum. I have driven Dodges for years and have never had noise problems as long as I read the owners manual ( all radio and any other communication equipment should be powered directly from the battery and fused only on the positive side). |
