Question for you DX'ers. I keep hearing people refer to them selves by numbers, ie, i think i heard someone called "108 Canada" yesterday on 28AM. Where are you getting these numbers? Just pick one? Sounds like a stupid question im sure, but cant seem to figure this one out, and i cant get any of them to talk to me to find out (probably due to being barefoot).
Thanks

Redstripe.

The numbers can be anything you want or like.

Some people use numbers issued to them by different groups, some people use their favorite number, Others use numbers that mean something to them Like ss8541 which was his MOS (Scout/Sniper) in the Marine Corp, What ever sounds good to you.

On Sundays if you tune into the CEF NET or join in the Chat Room you will find a lot who use the CEF Number issued to them on the Net and here on the Forum.

My Tech808 number I chose because I have used 808 fishing reels for Catfishing since they came out, My CB handle is Also CATFISH.

So it all depends on what you choose to use.

Hope this helps.

Don't let Tech808 kid you. 808 is really the date of his birth. August, 1908.

Ok, Cool. I guess i'll use 514, the last 3 digits of my FRN, know of anyone already using it?. I just won an auction on a Uniden Grant LT ($100 out the door!) off ebay so maybe i'll be able to get out there with the extra wattage of SSB.

All kidding aside, the guy born in '08 is correct. You can use just about anything for your station ID number.

I personally use NE-548. The "NE is the abreviation for Nebraska and the "548" is part of my birth date. When I'm on the CEF Net, I use "CEF-152".

Also, the old guy from the above post failed to tell you what frequency that our Net meets on. We meet on Sunday mornings, 11 AM Eastern Time, tune to 27.115 (ch-13) lower sideband.

To get your own CEF (Copper Electronics Forum) number, see the old guy. He probably still has some numbers left.

73s and welcome to the forum.

Jeff, kc0gxz.

514/Redstripe:

Give me a hollar anytime on 27.385LSB I'm usually listening. My call number like some of those above came from part of my birthdate.

Incidentally, if you use your State abreviation in front of the 514, even if there is another 514 out there, it won't matter.
