Yea Ive got something to send you Karate and I dont want the smell to get out!!! Actually I need some to put on my cell phone. I work outside in dirty conditions and the screen keeps getting scratched up from dirt getting between the screen and the leather case. So I thought Id get some of that plastic and keep it on my screen. When it gets bad I could replace it. Im tired of buying new faceplates all the time Buck |

Buck, What the 1st Sargant does when we go fishing or yard work it she buys a box of 100 Cheap ($1.00 box) Zip lock bags and we put cell Phones and House phone, and our FT50 2M/440 HT in them when out side. She just pokes hole in bottom of bag for antenna and puts rubber band around antenna. Sealed/ziplock end down. Water proof, Dirt proof, Scuff proof and CHEAP! We have a box by garage door, front door and in all of the trucks and cars. Keeps Snow, Ice, Rain, Mud, and Catfish bait out of them. Nothing worse than dropping cell phone in 5 gal bucket of Cheese Bait. Handy little critter's. Lon |

Buck, what radiodude suggests is what I was thinking....you could go to Walmart and get some "window tint" type plastic. I really don't know the technical term, but I rememeber buying a roll of this on putting it on my 1000MP to tinit down the bright mode setting. You might be able to find a "clear" or almost clear film. Good luck--- |

Buck what about Handy Wrap, it is clear and clings to items, First Sargant wraps Lon in this after a fishing trip until Wed night comes around to shower. |

hey tech808, i saw a few days ago where you posted that you were U.S.M.C. Force Recon. after reading this post i really believe you now(not that i didn't then, but this reinforces it). you of all people know that destruction of radio equipment in the usmc is a court marshall offense. especially if you are recon, sniper, anglico, etc. you automatially know better. looks like this stuck with you after all of these years, and '1st sargant' is still enforcing it(aye, aye 1st sargant). in S.T.A. we had to make sure -ALL- of our radio equipment was water -PROOF- not just water resistant. we never knew when we may have to swim in to a beach or cross a river. the radio was our most important weapon(close air support, naval guns, artillery, etc) and it was treated as such. what better way to waterproof a 'prick'/prc-119 than with a 'yard' gladlock and reinfored with duct/100mph tape. very similar to your zip lock approach to your radios. makes me happy to see someone continue on with this in the 'sillyvillian, i mean civillian world. ------------------- buck, can't really help you with your question. i just wanted to post back to 808. well....actually i may be able to help you. you may be able to contact some of the manufactures of electronic equipment and see if they can give you a source. i really doubt it. my contacts with most of these companies is that most phone answerers are just that. they are good for answering a phone and nothing else. they usually have no idea of where to switch you to find the answer you are looking for. but calling them is atleast worth the experience of being ran around in a circle if nothing else. hey you may even accidentally get put in the right the department the 1st time. it has happened to me before. |

Taz, If you decide to join the Corp, you will find it is a brotherhood of it's own. Study hard and be in the best shape you can when going in. And then 20-25 years later when your wife needs you she can say, HEY JARHEAD! (like the 1st Sargant does) Good Benefits and much more are there. Hopefully by the time you go in, I pray that the World will be at peace, and you will not have to go through what ss8541 and I did. Do not get me Wrong as I would gladly volunteer to do it again in a second as I am sure ss8541 would also. Good luck in whatever branch you choose. With your knowledge in Computers and Radio's you can go a long way. And hey, where else can you do 20 years and retire, and still be Young enough to get even higher paying jobs. Just an old "Jar Head" ramblin on. OH, did I mention that the Marine Corp's Birthday Parties are GREAT! I mean what other Branch of the Service was started in a TAVERN? Lon |

I'm not in the electronics field, but have dealt with many variants of survival radios in the Navy. PRC-90's then the PRC-90-2. Now it's being replaced by the PRC-149. URT-33 beacons (TX emergency beacons only) soon to be replaced by the URT-140. Also PRT-5, at the time the only beyond line of site radio. Then came the PRC-112 used in combat zones. We had to program those daily for the aircrews. Now there is a Bravo version with GPS incorporated but they're only an interim until the CSEL comes out some year. Most survival radios now are changing frequencies from the old distress frequencies, able to be interrogated by friendlies (electronic interrogation) and pinpointed via sattelite and GPS for a quicker rescue. I guess any branch is pretty good now. My son-in-law retired a couple years ago after 22 years in the Air Force at the age of 41. He retired as a master sargant, and had made a pretty good living including all the benefits. But the training and schooling he got was really worth a lot, he went to work after getting out with Raytheon Aircraft. They've got a plant here where they customize the Beachcraft Jets, with his experience and training it wasn't any problem for him to get certified for their planes, and now he makes way more than he did in the service, plus he has the retirement pay and benefits from the Air Force. And, he likes his work, thats worth a bunch, lots of people have to go thur life with a job they hate. |
