Got both my QST magazine and the new COPPER catalog today. Choices, choices, guess which one I read first? You guessed it, COPPER catalog! Great articles about the FCC busts going on. Plus now they went and put a $5 coupon in it for subscribers only. Let's see, I paid $19.99 for a year of catalogs less $5, means about $1.25/month?? It's a trick to get me to buy something! It's working... |

ca346 I joined the leage for the first time in 1963 it was something like $5. As time went on in about 1976 i went for lifemembership it was something like $130. Now almost 30 years later its $40 PER YEAR and what do you get ....well you get some good stuff and page after page of why we must matain code and how standards must be rased .... meanwhile 73 goes broke ........makes you wonder |

Bruce: Yes, very interesting discussions in QST on the 'argument' (and that's what it is, an argument) of code or no-code issue, among others. They are changing rules all over the world to reflect the decisions made on that issue. BUT, I read the advertisements first. Not the content. What does that say about my focus? That's why I love the COPPER catalog, it has enough information with the picture of the product to make intelligent decisions on which piece of equipment is right for my particular situation. When you add to that, the product reviews and forum question and answers, it is easier to make a purchase that is right for me. I'm a little tired of the code/no-code issue. Doesn't mean I will stop trying to learn the code tho!! |

I had to kidd you your right a real castalog has enough detail that you know what your getting... magazines try to squze as many adds as they can to bring in the dollar. Copper prints the catalog to help sell what they sell unlike qst which prints what someone else is selling. Qst expects you to contact the vender and obtain your information from him. In this months QST they mailed out a compleat MFJ cataloge ill bet THAT cost a few bucks. |

Re Bruce.... Well Bruce 73 did have some outside book sales bringing in income--I have a few of them myself. I found them informative but B I have to say that the ARRL's outside publications covered everything from A to Z and then some. They had the big handbook, all the license manuels plus the big antenna book as well. And they had a host of mugs, pins etc stuff to sell. So I guess in a long way what I am trying to say is that the ARRL went out to become a big time publisher of a very wide host of ham literature and other ham related stuff. All that extra income is nice when subsriptions start to decline. BTW there is another very nice publication out there that you might like. It is called World Radio. Do not expect some gloss publication. Its no where near QST but it is still a half decent buy for the price. Lets see I have an AD of err err hmmm yup there it is www.wr6wr.com. Best to all DE |

Yeah, I got that MFJ catalog with the QST mag also. Interesting advertising technique. I had already worn the pages off the COPPER catalog, so I went to the MFJ. I've really been lusting after that new Lincoln on COPPER's home page. But since I already have a President HR2510, there's not much point in it... |
