Add 25 feet of LMR 400 with a BNC connector on one end and a PL259 on the other.

$25 radio, $40 coax, an $80 antenna (unless you build one) and a $70 license. Super FM communications within 5 or so miles. No skip or bleedover from channel 6.

Almost the same with MURS on VHF but no license and 3 times the range.

70$ to talk on a radio i paid 20$ for ....in a word NO!!
Set it up and talk for free YES!!!
I will use my discone and go that way. I have a 500ft spool of rg8x and I can put the ends on.

I have an amp that can work on 460 with a small adjust.

707 .... no MURS is i can tell you my group uses good antennas and gets good results but we have heard others that there is no way they are running 2 watts more like 50. Its a lot easyer to get a 2 meter radio on MURS than a 440 on frs ... lots of used ones out there. As for FRS 1/2 watt at 460 with no external antenna ..... lots of luck.

if you want results on MURS radio, go with a cross-polarised antenna system and up the power a little bit
