sounds like the passive regulators are shorted (collector to emitter). this is a common problem, but may not be your problem. there are other possibilities, but i would i would check this 1st.

My P.S. did the same thing Snapperhead. My problem was exactly what SS8541 said. I had a shot 2n3055 transistor. Someone suggested that may be the problem so I ordered 6 brand new ones ($1.05 each plus shipping)and started replacing them one by one. It was the second one I pulled, lucky!

Good Luck!

Also, the pass transistors can usually be removed one at a time to troubleshoot the problem. And, if you don't need all the current that the supply is rated for, then it can be run without one of the transistors until you get the replacement.

Rule of thumb...the ammount of current the supply is rated for divided by the number of pass transistors equals the ammount of current capacity lost if you pull one of the transistors.

Does anyone make giant-size step-down transformers,such as 120 primary,18 secondary,with 8 or 10 gauge secondary wire,ya'know like a 200 amp output.Got some 35 amp TO-3 PNP transistors to replace my MJ2955'S,five will get me 175 amps,also have a 20 amp dedicated line to P.S.Figure this would be cheaper than getting a KLV1000-P.
