I'm ready to buy a base. I want to be loud. I was thinking about the 2995Dx but several guys around here said they didn't think it sounded so hot and the chances of blowing up the unit was increased by the built in amp. I'm kind of stomped. I'm also a little leary of some amplifiers. Suggestions? mikefromms |

I have had my 2995DX with fan kit on 24/7/365 and never turned it off for over a year and a half now with NO PROBLEMS at all. Running FULL Power, Mic gain set at 6 o clock. Never change it. Love that it has 10/11/12 Meters. GREAT BASE RADIO Lon Tech808 |

I like the 2517...They sound good. But it sounds like the 2995 is a great rig also.....I will bet it will get more votes than the 2517 |

If you stop and think, a base is only a mobil with a built in power supply and a pretty face. Save some money,,,buy a mobil. |

Well I don't have the 2995 but I do have a 2990dx with a fan kit like Lon. I love it great radio. Nothing but good reports from everyone I talk to. Talk skip all over with nothing but the internal amp!!! Just my thoughts.... Marlboro Man |

I second the Galaxy DX2517, I have one and love it...Then get a KLV 350 or 400, and you are going to need a spare room to keep all the flowers! |

Happy Aniversary Radiodude. I'll go and shout for you now on 27.135lsb! Mike, if you think you'll be operating on SSB that much I'd have to say get the 2985DX or (preferably) the 2995DX. For AM only, the 2517/2980 would be alright. |

I'll be doing both am and ssb. I want some good loud-booming modulation without muffle. I have a Lincoln but it seems to be more of an ssb talker than am. I have placed it in the car. Decisions, decisions. mikefromms |

Dx2517,unless you require the more expanded coverage of the 2995dx,let me say this if you get the DX2517 specifically ask that 307 do his magic with it,he did mine and this baby is LOUD and CLEAR.It is excellant on both am as well a ssb,you can use the mike gain and the rf power control to vary output on ssb.I set the rf power at 1/3 and mike gain wide open to drive my boomer 400 for 450watts (and putting in a greenhouse for all the flowers, lol)for am set rf power at 2 watts or 4 watts or where ever you want and mike gain at 8,more than enough modulation for any setting and it is clear, clear, clear and EARS,my god has it got ears, this is not opinion, this is my experience with it.Oh and by the way I don't run power on am I have found that am is just to hard on most amps.Bigbob |

The DX2517 also has better looks and styling, more egromatic controls, and is easier to work on than the 29xxDX radios. It is the top of the line bootleg CB radio, bar none. It is a fantastic SSB radio as well as AM. But don't give up on your Lincoln...Get it aligned by a good tech, and get the chipswitch for it, then if you decide to get a ham license, you'll be all set on 12 and 10 meters. |

I have an Extra Class Ham license already. I just like CB better these days. Can I get excommunicated for that comment? Anyway, the way you all are talking about that DX 2517 I'll have to look into it a little closer. Keep this post going. mikefromms |

mikeforms The Galaxy 2517 is really a neat looking radio, and it can talk, I have never used the AM, but the ssb ROCKS |

2517 Copper Price: $424.99 / 10 & 11 Meters (converted) 2995DX Copper Price: $564.99 / 10 & 11 & 12 Meters (converted) and around 100 more watts am & ssb. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Both Good Radio's, Both Very Loud, Tough choice. Never owned a 2517 but all reports on 2995DX have been LOUD & CLEAR. Lon Tech808

I'm going with the 2517. I'm afraid I would burn the built in linear up and the radio would go down with it. I guess I'm shell shocked by my latest costly solid state amplifier experience. A good loud radio will do for now. It will be nice to own a big base again. Next, Wilson 1000 mounted on the roof of my car. I have a Larson trunk mount and it is evidently reflecting signal off my am antenna on the back. It is so directional. mikefromms |

I would e-mail you but I can't,so I hope this post is not rejected.307 once told me you can drive a klv 1000-p with a dx2517 it will only put out 600 watts but it will run cooler and last longer and you will have an amp that will take it if you upgrade to a 100 watt base, kinda' cool, huh.Bigbob |

mikefromms, you wont burn the amp up in this 2995 radio... the weak link in these radios is heat disipation, and the power supply mostly and reinstalling a few other odds and ins correctly, not the amp. but that is easily fixed by a simple modification proceadure. then youll have "one bad motor scooter" that will talk with clean loud modulation, push some nice wattage and will not self destruct. stock 299# series radios are known for this after being peaked and tweeked by folks that dont know to fix the weak links in them. and thier are several little things they do at the factory to these componets that i dont understand, except to kill them slowly so they can sell you parts and a service charge after the parts go out. "which will be around when your warrentee goes out". i hope i didnt scare you off of these radio's be cause of what i said. these are infact my favorite export radio! ive got one and have had great reports on mine and its a power house of a radio. 5 watt of dead key and swings 120 watts on a bird 43p, it tops out at just abit under 190 on the 43p. i love theses 2990 types but after spending good money for them i would add a fan kit and do the anti-self destruct mod and youll never have to worry about it. this radio drives a big amp extreamly well! i drive my heathkit sb220 with mine and it makes an awesome driver for this amp, better than the low side of a phantom 500. |
