I would like to know what would be the best or one of the best meters to get for SWR, POWER, MODULATION out there on the market. I am only asking this because I am still a kid going to school and very interested in the CB radio thing. I only begain in December of 2002. And i need a meter to start to tune my own equipment.

I like the Dosy meters on that link Lon sent, especially the TC4002 SW4 and TC4002 PSW. They are very good for checking SWR, power and modulation, plus they have the antenna switch, very handy if your gonna run more than one antenna or a dummy load. These Dosys also will measure RMS or Peak power which most don't. The RMS will show if you really have forward swing or just seeing harmonics or trash as swing. For the money, I think they are hard to beat. scrapiron

Foxracing,

I like the MFJ-860 Cross-Needle Meter. It's got a nice price tag of $44.95.

The MFJ-860 Cross Needle is a good little SWR/WATT meter.

But it only handles 300 watts and Does Not register / show Modulation like the DOSY, Astatic, or Workman Meters do, and they handle from 4000 to 5000 watts and also have the Modulation Meters you are seeking.

The Workman P-5000 also is a lighted 3 Meter set and comes with Power Cord and Headphones which is another Big Plus.

Saves you money by not having to buy these accessories extra.

You will find it in the Link above I posted.

Just my Thought's

I think since you are new, you should try one of the three window meters, they are less prone to hitting the wrong switch, and getting confused. I have a set that the meter turns red if you ovemodulate, or your swr is too high, that is kind of cool, too.

Lon is right on about the MFJ-860. I have had one for awhile. It's a great "little" meter if you are running less than 300 Watts, BUT.... more importantly, to me anyway, is that the meter is so small, it takes real effort to read it. Especially, when you are trying to accurately read the power setting. Plus, if you wanted to have the meter lighted, you had to pay another $15.

Everyone thank you a lot for the replies.... Right now i am running a AfterBurner Plus amplifier which is putting out 200 watts. I am in the time getting my new Palomar 6oo Elite fixed. I bought it for $50. I have to get new finals put into it. I need to know what would be a good meter to buy that can do more than 300 watts but less than 900. Just in case i get a new amp that will push a lot... The same as above with SWR, MODULATION, POWER, like WATTS.
Thanks
