I think I am not alone in this matter, let me refresh you with a few lines to remind you.... You're NOT puting that ugly thing on the roof of the vehicle, what if someone sees me?... But I thought you said my 5 element yagi would look good and add value to our house??... What are you talking to those people about?? all you do is ask the same questions.. what antenna are you running, how is my signal, what type of radio set-up do you have etc, etc... isn't that boring?? can you take that outside? I can't hear the TV!! You are going to have an accident if you speak on that stupid radio while you're driving!!
Feel free to add to the thread!! ha ha
Cheers

PS- The YL is actually quite patient with me about my radio obsesion, but I know my cut off point!! ha ha..

Guess I'm lucky. Met my wife through Amateur Radio -she was in Oregon and I was in Brisbane Australia (both now in Oregon) and we both still enjoy the hobby. Had no problems (well I was a little concerned about drilling a hole in the roof of a new truck) setting two radios in the vehicle - 2m and 10m.

I'm lucky too. My wife is very supportive and thinks it is a cool hobby, she doesn't share my interest yet, but I'm working on that.

My wife supported my spending $$$ to be able to set up the 3rd radio in the shop/garage so she could have some peace and quiet. You XYL's that are into and part of your hubby's hobby, are smart cookies!

My wife got tired of me talking on the radio one night and complained.

No problem. I shut down the radio and was very sweet.

After she saw me getting dressed up and asked where I was going, I told her I was headed to the bank machine to pull out a couple of hundred dollars and was going to the strip clubs. I asked her if if would be alright if I called her about 2:00 AM to come pick me up, or should I just get out an extra $40 for the taxi ride home?

All of a sudden, me sitting at home, her knowing exactly where I was and who I was talking to sounded like a much better option, and much less expensive.

She has much less problems with me on the radio now once the alternative "hobbies" were discussed. I left the choices up to her on this one, radio won. Hmmmmm.....imagine that?

I should point out my wife also supports my other two hobbies - restoring a 72 MG and racing a Mini Stockcar (same as stock cars only 4 cylinders). Now if a can just get the track to allow me to install ham radio in the race car.. Maybe a 70cm, ATV transmitter so I can tape the crashes etc..

I have always had some sort of hobby going on and when I met my wife it was clear to her that I always would so I don't have any problems, but if I ever do I will try Alsworld's approach. It sounds like it would be very effective.:)

Lol.

Al, you have such a logical approach to almost everything. Is that what 20 years in the service does to you? I just love reading your posts.

Jeff.

You know my wife groaned about radio all the time too, always something I never had time for her. So I quit for awhile havnt been doing many repairs not like I used to 4 or 5 a day xtra 40 to 100.00 dollars. You know low and behold she noticed I just started watching tv invading her area so to speak so then I did the bar thing, as Alsworld said but, I went next day it was OK to talk on the radio!
Her father was a CB Tech also so she knew what was going to happen before we got married or dated. I was a friend of her fathers before me and her dated. We had met before but PANAMA and JUST CAUSE had come first.

my ex(yes, ex) knew I was a CB fanatic from day one. When we met, I had a Cobra 2000 and Super Scanner. I got rid of all the radio stuff when my daughter was born a couple years later, mainly because there were no conditions, no locals, and no time. The next time I picked it up in '90, running an old Midland 78-574 I had somehow missed getting rid of 7 years earlier (he,he), she knew it was on again. It wasn't long til I was back to my old hobby in full force, and into SWL'ing as well. She didn't say much for about two years, but then the whining began. I used the old "alternative hobby" defense, but with a twist. I ran down the list of our mutual friends, and the guys hobbies.

Most of my buddies were into cars, ATV's and motorcycles. I pointed out one guy who had around $15,000 invested just in backyard toys. That put a stop to the whining really quick and she even started buying me radio stuff for Christmas and birthdays.
