I don't know about the 2547 but I know about the dx2517 with the tune up done at copper. When you key down to talk you get noticed and you get respect as a loud motorscooter--just what I wanted. mikefromms |

The 2547 has the same board as the 2517, and if it is set up right, it will scream right along with the best of them. The 2517 has a lot more channels because it's an export radio. The 2547 comes with just 40 channels and needs to be modded to get the extra channels. Hope this helps. 73's... |

if you are looking at running a straght 40ch radio, they work great. if you want something with more channels, then you need to buy that in the 1st place. although the pll/vco will hold this(after modifications) the bandpass of the tx and rx was not designed for extra freqs. |

Ss8541, Ok, guess i stand corrected. Too bad, Galaxy should really beef up the 2547 it's a nice looking radio. |

topten, you have to keep in mind that the 2547 and all the other radios using this board are fcc type accepted/certified. that means that they are sent in to the fcc to be checked out prior to being put on the market. galaxy and rci is not looked at highly by the fcc. galaxy and rci knows this so they have made a 'choked' down version of the 6900-10z board for these radios. the pll is also completely different and the rx/tx circuits are also missing the varactor tuning that gives the '10mtr' radio such a wide bandwidth. this is a reason why even though the pll can be modified to cover the 'missing' freqs, it really isn't a good idea to do so. for this radio and other radios using this board, i usually can get about 21-24 watts pep with a standard tuning. after a few easy modifications to make it more like the '10mtr' radios i get about 27-30wpep. this is measured with a hp8920 service monitor. i haven't went 'all out' to find ways to get every last drop of rf out of these radios. that is why amps are made. |

I have a 2547dx and have no complaints. I had it tuned&peaked at copper when I bought it. Since then I have added a KLV550 amp and had a tech friend re peak& tune it to the tune of 10-12 watts output barefooted. It makes the distance. |

Topten, I have a Dx 949, and the board is the same as a 2547, and very very similar to the 2517. I put in the extra channel mod, 10 k mod, and put in dual finals. It works great on all channels, and I get great reports back on my signal and audio. I originaly bought the radio from Copper, and had it tuned there as well. |
