Hey everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know that it’s my time to head to the tip of the sword, once again forward deployed hunting bad guys around the globe. Unfortunately that means I won’t be on the forum for quite a few months, and won’t be on the CEF NET calling out on Sunday mornings. I will really miss not being able to check the Copper forum daily, but will be thinking of y’all and hoping for the best of conditions on Sundays.

Although I probably will be on the radio this coming Sunday, it will not be as West Coast assistant NET control. With so much yet to do, we thought it best that someone take it over prior to me leaving as I will have to take down by base antenna, secure my radio equipment, remove the rest of my radio equipment and antenna from my truck, etc. With the weather here not so good this time of the year, and lots of wind, I will just have to take whatever open time period available. I am trying to hold off until after Sunday’s NET, but time and weather may change that plan. And of course, there is always the endless honey-do list that seems to grow tremendously prior to leaving. I’m pretty busy now as you may imagine.

This Sunday, Karatebutcher, CEF 104 will take over as the West Coast NET Control, and he will be your west coast check-in point of contact. I will be gone shortly thereafter. He is in a great location to make multiple contacts throughout this great country, and I know he will be listening for our international CEF members as well. With his big radio setup and location, it is a winning combination.

I do want to take this opportunity to wish everyone here a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I will be gone prior to those dates and so I figured I would go ahead and say it now to all of you.

I will keep this e-mail address open, but realistically I have no idea if or when I will be able to check it. My e-mail gets deleted after 30 days automatically so if you shoot me one and never hear anything back, assume I never got it. I try to respond to them all. I do not know how those types of things will work out. I have told Lon, Tech 808, that if at all possible I will keep in touch with him and Karatebutcher to find out what’s happening on the Forum, and news in general (new toys on the market, new numbers of CEF members, if Radiodude is out of his cast and healthy again, etc.) For those who have me on their mailing list, keep’em coming. I really enjoy those, but I will ask if it is an extremely large file, if you would, please try and not send the really big ones while I’m gone. Because I will be accessing this address remotely (assuming I have access at some point), pretty much everything will stay on the server and not get downloaded to a computer. It gets filled up fast. Also, if you do send an e-mail, please put something in the Subject Line that I will recognize like Copper Forum. I get a million SPAM e-mails that have my name in there, are blank, or just “hi”. I delete those without reading. I have to, as 99% are SPAM. If I open them, it just shows my e-mail address is still valid and I continue to receive them

Unfortunately, I cannot say where I am going or for how long, but can assure all of you that what we do is important and real world missions that actually mean something and get results. So many earlier deployments in my career were typical “training deployments”. This one is not training, and that makes it completely worthwhile. Thank goodness I am much better at my job than I am at antenna theory :) LOL! I hope to be back sometime in the Spring instead of the Summer, but we will have to wait and see.

I am also asking for you Ladies and Gentlemen to please realize that this is not intended to be some squishy-butt / touchy feely / mushy / feel-sorry-for-me / think I’m going to cry / goodbye letter. I do not resemble anything close to those words, and don’t intend to make it sound that way. I have spent many previous Christmas holiday seasons overseas away from my family, whether aboard Aircraft Carriers or land based. It teaches you to value the time spent at home. I have spent over 20 years doing this very same thing, so it is nothing new. It’s part of the sacrifice that comes with being US Military. We volunteer to do this knowing it is important to our American freedom, and we are proud to serve you. It’s harder on the families, but my kids have seen it since birth and my wife for the last 19 years. I know you veterans and active duty know where I’m coming from. This is our job. It’s as simple as that.

I will miss the routine of getting on the Forum daily and seeing what is new. Always enjoyable to see a problem get fixed, a situation be explained, or even take part in a good old fashion debate every now and then. Lots of good people on here for sure. I wish you the best of conditions for you skip shooters, and quiet times for those who talk only local. I’ll be hanging around, posting when I have something to add. When I no longer post, I’m gone for awhile.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say Thank You to the Forum Master and Tech 808 for not only starting the CEF NET, but asking me to be a part of it. It has been a real pleasure to see it grow to so many members, and make contact with so many of you. One thing I can honestly say, I have never made contact with a Forum member that did not have a great sounding station! Not a single trashy station like I hear elsewhere. Wow! Now that must say something about why we are all here, and proof that the knowledge level of the Techs and Forum members helping each other is working well. Hard to get any better than that.

Well this is long to I’ll shut up now. Y’all take care of each other and keep the ham vs. CB issue non existent. One of the things that makes this forum the best, we all help each other be it ham or CB. That sets the example, as it should be.

Take care and Happy Holidays.

Alsworld,

Thank you for your service to our country. If there is anything we can do while you are deployed all you have to do is ask. We would be honored to send you a package of goodies every so often; Candies, Cigars, cigarettes, etc., if that is allowed.

Please if possible keep in touch. You are the forums link to our armed forces. Our prayers will be with you.
