I have taken the written exam for the General class license but not the code test as of yet. How long do I have to take the code test before I have to re-take the written exam. Thanks for any help.

Just make sure you hold onto that certificate you received for passing the General written exam. It is the only proof you have! If you misplace it, you will have to take the written test over again. Keep that certificate in a safe place!
