A guy wants to trade me a Yaesu 8900R, it is a four band mobile with 50 watts out on three bands, and I think 35 watts out on the other band. Has anyone ever seen this radio perform, is it good, or bad, or does anyone know of any problems with them? Thanks for any info anyone can provide.

Pig for what? its a good radio but a ic-718 is the same money and several yaseus and icoms that cover many bands are too much more.

Bruce:

They are NOT the same price. The 8900R sells new for a sale price of $389. The 918 sells new for a sale price of $499.99

But the "difference" in the radios appears to be alot for the $100 difference... The ICOM718 beats it hands down.

But if you want a radio to use on the 11 Meter band, why not spend the money on a new COPPER MAGNUM of your choice?

I dont want it for the 11 meter band, I already have a kenwood 850 for that, and my trusty Yaesu 101. I wanted to mess around with 2 and 6 meter, and this radio has both. It looks nice, but I dont know anyone who has had one. I wonder about its performance. Plus this is a no cash involved deal, that is what makes it appealing.

Hi again Team,
Pig040 in referance to Bruces comment on the IC718.This radio is only HF with all modes where as the FT8900 is FM only on 10/6/2/70cm.
Take your pick.
