One that does not "splatter across the band". How much power are you looking for? Tube amps seem to be quite popular, and are more spectrally pure with less filtering than transistor based rigs. Do you want to build or buy? If you want to buy, make sure you buy a bandpass filter/low pass filter for your operation. Building is quite fun and tubes are much more easy to come by than it would seem. What sort of operating do you do? You have to remember, if the band is open, 5 watts will do just as well as 20 most of the time, and I do operate 20 watts as the average most of the time.

I'm with Manwich, include in your budget planning a good low pass filter. Having said that, here's my recommendation:

I have one, and I have never used it past stage 3 or 4, which probably keeps it running cooler. It is a great amp for the price.

Depends. I use a COPPER KL-500 in the house as I said above. I also use a low pass filter before the coax leaves the house. Antenna is sitting at 50 ft up a tower. I get no interference in the TV or phone, but I do get my voice through the computer speakers in the other end of the house... I just leave the computer speakers off...

Well, here is Our 2 cent's worth.

We Have and Use Several Amp's from Mobile Amps to the KLV1000.

All Equipment is Well grounded from Every Radio to Amp's to Antenna Switches.

And Each Radio has a Low Pass Filter attached Directy to radio via a Right Angle PL Connector. then Jumper from Radio to MFJ 1700B Switch Box on one side then Antenna Coax to other side.

All Coax including Jumper's are RG213.

We use 6' Jumper's from Amps to Antenna Switch

All Connector's Used are AMPHENOL and Soldered On!

We Generally have 4 or 5 radio's hooked up at a time that run thru our MFJ 1700B which allows us to have up to 6 Antennas, and 6 Radio's all hooked up at the same time.

Makes it very easy, we just flip a switch to whatever radio or antenna we are useing at the time.

I have each Leg of Tower Grounded Separtly and then all three legs tied together all 10' 3/4 Copper Rod's,

Then I have a separate 10' 3/4" Copper Ground Rod less than 4' from Equipment, Just for the Equipment.

We use three Sony 900 MHz Digital Cordless Phone's, and Fax Maxhine have Computer less than 3 feet from Radio Equipment and have no problem's with any of the Three tv's.

NO RFI PROBLEM's.

OVER KILL?

Maybe but NO PROBLEM's with Phone's, Fax Machine Computer or TV's

And trust me the 1st Sargant can get really upset if anything interfere's with her TV Program's.

You can put a small disc cap across the speaker on most phones and stop the rfi. I get none till about 1,600 watts then I get the vcr but thats to be expected with todays electronics "THAT ARE MADE TO RECIEVE UNWANTED INTERFERENCE", but did you know each company if responsible to repair this? The fcc interferrence guide shows all that.

Buck,

Is it one of the NEW SKIPPER 300's or a Older used one?

There was a "Very Limited" Run of the NEW one's that were built by the same man that made the First Skipper's.

And if it is one of the New Skipper's it is already is a COLLECTOR's ITEM.

I think he Special Made 100 or less of them for 1 person Only the last part of 2002.

VERY GOOD AMPS!

I kinda like the Demco 500 Plus. They are clean and run extremely cool. You can expect 800 plus watts too. It has three stages but they are hard to find. Mine works well alone or as a driver for my three tube 3-500z modified SB-220.
