I own an ICOM706MKIIG, and it is an exceptional rig, but this is probably what you are needing to read: "http://www.mods.dk/index.htm" Click on ICOM and go down the list.

like the army ranger's motto... 'icom leads the way'. icom makes high quality communications gear. the failure rate on their products is very low. i have worked on both motorola and icom radios and the icom have a lower failure rate in -my- opinion. i think one reason is because many motorola products are made in china where production is cheap and quality is..well not the best. icoms are designed and made in japan where workers take more pride in what they do. when compared to the kenwoods and vertex, i can't comment because i don't have enough experience with those. i do not have any experience with this rxer, but from my experiences with their LMR(land mobile radio; police, fire, etc) and ham equipment, i feel that this rxer would do you fine. i do have experience with the icom r5 rxer. for a cigarette pack, its 1250 ch's rx like a champ. |
