Just bought a DVD of "Smoky and the bandit". IMHO its one of the best CB realted movies made. Thinking of getting the movie "Handle with care" off of Amazon. I know these movies are dated and kinda cory compared to movies made today but they are a heck of a lot of fun and depict CB radio as it was during the "CRAZE".... |

I also enjoy TV series from the 70s like "The Rockford Files". Two episodes stand out for CBs, "Queen of Peru" and "Rocky's Diner". I still own (but don't drive) a black w/ gold '77 Trans AM that I bought new in '77, as I was miss-spending my youth. Dan |

Funny thing is "Convoy" the movie came out in 1978 and the song came out in the summer of 1975... Wonder why they waited so long.. By the end of 1978 the CB craze had settled down a tad but was still going stong.. |

Hey Foxracing.... I loved the Dukes of Hazzard too. I loved it so much, I am currently building a General Lee. Yep, converting a 1969 Dodge Charger into a full blown General Lee, right down to the 'authentic' Hazzard County license plates. We all have to have a hobby... |

Here's my list, Smokey and the Bandit,Convoy, and the one with John travolta as the guy that knew everything remember his friend was a radio dude, cant remember the name of it but was a good show. Dukes of hazzard was a good one too for TV really liked waylon as narrator. |

Crafter, the movie with John Travolta that you are talking about is called Phenomenon and his friends name was Forest Whitaker. That was a good movie. Another good movie involving radios is the movie Frequency, that has Dennis Quaid in it. TomCat... CEF217 |

I always thought Spy shows were cool because they managed to fit gadgets like radios in the neatest places. For instance the shoe phone in Get Smart. Off topic, but along those lines, I have a ballpoint pen that has a chrome telescopic presentation pointer in it. Sometimes for fun, in the days before 9/11, I'd pull it out in a public place such as a park, extend the pointer and start talking into it just to try and catch the reaction of onlookers. For movies, The Burbs made use of Radio Shack cyrstal controlled walkie talkies. |

You guys notice in "Smokey and the Bandit" that all the radios were Pace? I was also wondeing what the little scan box on top of Bandits and Snowmans radios were used for.. If you look closely the little box has a small antenna and 4 switches and what looks like a volume and squelch knob.. Is it a small 4 channel police scanner??????? |

Yeah, it was an old timey police scanner. That movie did plugs for Pace and especially Firestick. Did they ever get out of range or get walked on by anybody? They did make radioing look fun. What if they made a new movie--would they use the satelite walkie-talkies? It just wouldn't be the same..... mikefromms |

The modulation meter on that radio was pretty cool. Also, notice how clear and full bodied Rusty Nail's audio was, like an FM radio station. The best is in movies like Die Hard, where both parties are talking to each other over the radio at the same timeand neither side is unkeys. |

One of my favorites is an 80's movie called "High Frequency". It stars a bunch of no-name actors. I caught this one on Showtime a few years back. It's basically about a young unlicenced kid using his dead fathers old radio gear. He makes contact with a guy running a satelite station in the Swiss Alps somewhere. They end up recieving some Rusian spy signals somehow and get themselves in trouble. The previously mentioned movie "Frequency" is also on top of my list of favorite radio related movies. |

I like looking for those "mistakes" in the movies like the antenna falling off, or the car is dirty in one shot and clean in the next. Just like the gun that never runs outta bullets and the radio that is never outta range... It is kind of funny but that's what makes it a movie I guess... I remember in the movie Arthur when Dudly Moore is talking to his Grand mother and she is telling him get married and keep the girl friend, if you listen very carefully you can hear someones stomach growling. I had to rewind that scene 3 times and turn the volume up but sure enough it was there, a growl. I guess after that scene they broke for lunch. LOL :-) TomCat CEF217 Hope everyone had a great Christmas! Happy & Safe New Years to Everyone! |

I love all the cb movies, and own all the smokey & the bandit movies. Have any of you seen pump up the volume? Its about a highschool kid who makes a pirate radio station in his house and speaks how he feels. He did it on the am/fm broadcasting band (I.E. 82-108MHz) He broadcasted on 92FM, he called it. I saw it on tv the other night, and it wasn't too bad, especially when the fcc was chasing him. Taz |

I saw pump up the volume some years ago. Speaking of which, that FCC guy's hand must have been hurting after ripping the antenna off the roof of the jeep while the transmitter was still running. "Keep the air Alive!" |

I have "Citizens band" on DVD Great CB movie, since it really revolves totally around the CB. I think I paid $6.95 for it on eBay. 'This engaging drama depicts how individuals in a small southwestern town are drawn together through citizens band radios. Paul Le Mat plays Spider, an earnest young man who answers the distress calls which come over changel nine on the CB. When his work is hindered by wave-jammers, he goes on a crusade to clean up the band. He is especially fed up with the Red Baron who blabs Nazi propaganda, the Husler who boasts of his sexual conquest, and the Priest who tries to spread the Gospel via CB airwaves. Candy Clark plays a bored schoolteacher who is attracted to Spider, his brother, and a CB personality who calls himself "Warlock." The zany characters in Citizens band are all quite lovable. At one point Spider notes: "Everybody in this town is somebody they're not supposed to be." In the end, CB turns out to be a means of building community. Citizens work together on a search-and-rescue mission to locate Spider's elderly father.' Those danged Wave Jammers!!! |
