A 3' tripod will work fine. You can abtain these at your local Radio Shack or anyhere tv antennas are sold. |

John, I've used a 3 foot tripod, 10 foot mast, and A99 for 10 years with no problems. I've never used guy wires and this setup has survied 90+ mph winds. I live in a rural area with no structures and plenty of wind exsposure and this setup is still going strong. hope this helps stickshift |

John, if I understood you right you ordered the Thunder 8xb. I don't know if I'd put the thunder 8 on a 3 foot tri-pld mast set up. I could be wrong it might work fine--just seems a little heavy to me. There is a big difference in the size of the A-99 and Thunder 8. Mine is on a 36 ft. pushup and guyed with 6 wires. I used the maximum amount of pole to mount the antenna (antenna bottom mount 6' down the pole) for good hold. Anyway, hope you enjoy the thunder 8. Take your time and make sure everything is put together just right and tune that sucker on the ground. Also if there is a certain direction you want to get maximum signal or rejection from, be sure to point one of the wires accordingly. mikefromms |

Okay John, in that case, it sounds like you can safely use a mast anchored to your deck with a swivel bolt anchor (radio shack) and a shorter mast high enough to clear the roof peak. Radio Shack also sells a clamp that bolts to the roof facia board to keep it against the edge of the roof, but let it turn. In this forum the subject of metal masts has been discussed many times. LOWES hardware stores sells one for $40. I use one that is 36ft that Radio Shack does not sell anymore apparently? Since you are already up 50ft (guessing?) or so, you only need enough roof clearance for the Thunder 8XB. It's a BIG antenna. The spreaders that hold the wires apart are 14ft across on my antenna. They are going to be similar on your antenna. That means your mast must be at least 15 feet above the roof to clear the roof when it turns. It is a BIG antenna! Did I say it was a BIG antenna? You may be on the right track in a tripod holding a mast, but it's got to be taller to clear the roof. It may be easier for you to mount the antenna and mast on a tripod if you are on a 3 story house. Hope this helps. CA346/CEF197 |
