I have been on the air since i was about 17 years old.. Yeah ill admit it, I did raise h*** on the air back then using some bad language and plain goofing off but i have longggg since cleaned up my act... I think everyone goes though a phase. What will more than likely happne is they will find out that no one pays atenetion to them and they will leave CB altogether because no one will talk to them. See it all the time.....

Allagator, I drive a truck for a living and have done so for the past 10 years, and I have been just about everywhere you can go with a truck.
It is not only the kids that don't know how to act on the CB but I hear it every day! Coming from some so called "Professionals".
I agree there are some kids that get on the radio and raise a little H*** but that does not bother me as much as the so called "Professionals" that get on there and show that there shoe size is bigger than there IQ level.
It has gotten to the point now that you cannot even go down the road with out worrying whether or not you are going to get caught for (speeding)
because either you can't get anyone to come back to you or you get ahold of one of the so called "Professionals" and all you hear is a bunch of swearing or trash talking.
It used to be like if you went down the road you knew excatly what was in front of you for the next 100 or so miles.......now your lucky if you don't run into it head on! before some idiot's will say anything to you about it.
But now anyways I have grown older and wiser and besides that I haul HAZMAT loads in a tanker so I don't speed anymore than I have to anyways now.
I rarely stay on CH. 19 anymore unless I run into stop traffic, or weather so it doesn't really matter to me because I don't have to listen to them anymore.

Lissen freebanders DONT buy a 2 meter radio or a 440 radio and think you can go play As crafter is saying the FCC will come looking and you WILL pay a stiff fine and could even go to jail.... Lets face it many are on MURS right now with moded ham rigs but MURS is CB ! You go in the Sheriff frequncys its your BUNS! You got to remember part 90 is a whole diffrent world that 95 or 97 ... mess up there your going to get BURNED.

In a lot of places if you ask for a radio check you're lucky if you get, "I hear you driver." Few people really want to talk. Have you noticed that a few folks assume everyone on CB are "drivers" or "hands?"

Ok Mike. Educate me please if you can. Out of all my years in cb radio,( 30 + ), I have not heard the term " hands ". What are you referring to? If it is not something nice, just send me an e mail to answer. I don't care for garbage stuff, but never stop learning either. Don't want to make a mistake, if you get my drift!
In meantime, a beautiful day in Atlanta.

Looks to be interesting their asking the ham community to fox hunt the person doing it guess its going to get hot, Plus it just made papers asking if anyone had information to call sheriff's office guess they interferred with emergency traffic a day or so ago. So far a $1000.00 reward. Someone will come clean now.

Keith, the term "hand" is a trucker term for another driver. A hired hand you know it means nothing bad.
Yes, most of the time people are reffered to as drivers,or hands assuming Mike you are talking about CH. 19.
From my expierience the reason few want to talk is most don't want to tie up the channel. Now radio checks are ok, EXCEPT when you get someone that has not had a radio very long and they actually don't know how to talk on one ( meaning this is all they know how to say on the radio )
and they constantly ask for a radio check, I have heard this often.
I do enjoy a good CB fight every now and then as long as they don't swear to much (ha)(ha).
As for getting information on directions that is what my cell phone is for. Also my expierience my cell phone is a whole lot more reliable , than a mad at the world truck driver who could care less if you get to where you are going or not.
P.S. I will fianly be leaving on the road SUN. first time since i have joined the CEF. Might have a chance to talk with some of you.

I know about getting called hand and driver thing!!!! LOL!!!!!!! I get called that sometimes when i go to the local shop.. Pretty much everyone thinks you are a driver if you walk around the shop carrying a mobile... Walk in carrying a base and they dont say much just "hey thats a sweet lookin' base ya' got there guy!" :-)

Channel 19 is typically filled with lots of trash caused by people of all ages. I commute daily on Interstate 29 on my way to school on the better half of my trip. The drive is about 50 miles for me. On several occassions I've used Channel 19 for road information while traveling during the winter months. Talk about foul-mouthed garbage. Every other person using the frequency can not say more than 3 words without using the "F" word. Come to think of it, Channel 38 LSB isn't much better these days. Who knows, these people might talk like this all of the time. Some people sound so un-intelligent.

I think it is great that some of the younger kids are taking interest in C.B. Radio. Without them this hobby will die. Yes there are some that raise he** but most that I have heard do a pretty good job.
I started in this hobby 32 years ago at the age of 10. My dad was a truck driver and bought me my first radio so we could talk to each other when he was leaving for a trip and when he was returning home.
We used channel 1 at that time and there was an older man that just hated me because I was young and talking on the radio. I never cussed or caused trouble for anyone but he just did not like the fact that I was there. I tried to talk to him but he would just ignore me. The other people on the channel were great to me and we had alot of fun.
One day I was listening on the channel and this guy was just putting me down to the other people so I got on my bike and went to his house. When I got to his house and knocked on the door I thought to myself what in the world are you doing. He came to the door and I told him who I was and the look in his eyes I will never forget. By my surprise he invited me in and we sat down and talked.
We started talking radio and the next thing I know it was three hours later and he got a good education on his C.B. equipment!
There are still alot of the guys that were my age still on the radio today. Now we get to hassel the young kids (hehe)
Give some of these kids time, either they will become good radio operators or they will just go away in time!

Grumpy thats a cool story!!
When i started on CB in 1990 or so there were a lot of older locals both AM and SSB that I talked to and they never ignored me or made me feel unwelcome in fact I learned a lot from those guys(too bad most of them no longer talk CB or have passed away) in fact there was one guy that lived in my town and I was actually kinda intimidated by him on the air because he had a really loud sounding(go figure! LOL! he was 5 blocks away from me too!)One night me and another high school friend of mine were on a SSB freqency, I think 27.475 LSB, and he broke in. Neither my friend or I wanted to talk to him so after a few seconds I finally gave him the "go ahead QSK" and my friend and I plus the guy talked for what must have been all of 2 hours! I finally asked him what he ran that made him so good sounding and all he was running at that time was a RCI ranger 2950 and a silver eagle mike. So one day i decided to go see his station because i was interested in his 2950 and i had never seen one before. We sat in his radio room and talked CB radios, export radios, meters, antennas, and antenna theory for like several hours and i learned a LOT from him that day about antenna gain, swrs, antenna spacing, beams, and wavelenth! Well a year later i bought a NIB 2950 and that was my first serious radio i bought! Ive always like to talk to the old timers out there because they knew what CB was like years before my time and they are a treasure trove of info as well...
