Simply stated, no.

Less simply, there was a 'problem' noted with the 2000 frequency counter "acting erratically". The fix is to replace D528.

Other than that, if it doesn't work, it's probably the IC chip which is not available anymore.

Hi Jake: I've been reading your messages concerning getting a radio. You have asked good questions, and have gotten good answers. But please think things out, you are not yet experienced enough to buy someone elses problems and get them working, this takes time and experience. For your first rig, PLEASE BUY A NEW WARRANTYD RADIO, then if there are problems they will be taken care of under warranty!!!! Then get a radio that needs some repairs and expierment on it. Also as others have said, a fair or good radio caan be a screamer with a good antenna. Hope this one more piece of advice helps.

It is a 50/50 shot. In MOST cases , not all , there are two FET's that go bad which you can replace , however the TC5032-IC may be the problem and if you call Cobra at 1-800-COBRA-22 , you can see how much for the part and if they are in stock.

The frequency counter on my spotless 2000 doesn't work either.......a 2000 is just a 148 with a built in 120/12 volt transformer anyway.
you can always buy a separate freq counter.

Rattlesnakejake,

I noticed you were high bidder on this Cobra. Right now it is around 232.00.

If I might offer a suggestion if someone out bids you let it go.

After reading the ad warning flags went up for me.

I have been on e-bay since Nov 25th 1998, and have never had a Neutral or Negative comment and this guy has 2 of them out of 31 items.

BIG WARNING FLAG!

Copper has many radios that by saving a few dollars more would be a much better deal and come with a Factory Warranty for you.

The Texas Ranger 696F-SSB Base link below would make you a Very good radio for just a Few dollars more and offer you a lot more for your money with a Two Year Warranty. Just click on the link below.

http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodE00-07000+

And it is also the same radio we use every Sunday for the CEF Nets if you have heard us.

Very easy to Modify and a lot more features.

Just my thought's.

Could be a few things. L20 vco output which feeds 33mhz counter input not peaked properly. Bad 33mhz tune coil in counter section, fixed by the two slug trick. Bad 4 pin plug connection on mixer inputs at main pcb near vco. 7mhz input coil not tuned right. Counter also runs more stable at 14.5v than 13.5v. The internal zener controlled regulator is inadequate.
