a I-max 2000 brown to look like the top part of a tree and angle it back further into the woods at say a 15 to 30 degree angle. Will the paint or angle effect it's performance, I found a great tree along my drive and if I do it right may work really sweet.
Thanks

Keep it as vertical as possible!

I wonder if you could throw on some type of water barrier on these fiberglass antenna's?? I had an antron 99 for about 5 years and after the sun took its toll on it, you had to really be careful in handling it or you'd get a handfull of fiberglass! :(

Make sure the paint has no metalic pigments in it such as titanum. The metal can affect the match or otherwise hinder performance.

Go to your local industrial paint store and ask for a quart of Tnemec (that's "cement" spelled backward). This paint is specially made for fiberglass structures and is RF passive.

Like 451 says, keep the tilt to a minunum but it will still work.

Also consider the contineous weight load on the antenna from being tilted...will it cause the antenna to fatique and breakdown sooner than usual.

Good Luck

Thje angle will change the radiation pattern in that if your antenna normally raidates at 6degrees above horizontal by sloping it you will now radiate at 6 + slope angle in some directions annd 6 - slope angle in others. All this means is that the antenna will have a preference to hear skip at the lower angles better than it will at the higher angles.

Draw a simple diagram that has a horizontal line (the ground). Now in the middle of that draw a vertical line (the antenna). Somewhere above this draw in an arc (the ionoshpere). Now at about 6 degrees draw a line from the base of the antenna until it hit the arc. At this point continue the line back to the ground. Do the same on the other side of the antenna at the same angle. OK this is the theoretical radiation path with a vertical antenna.

Now from the same spot on the ground draw another antenna tilted at 30 dgrees.Draw dotted line at right angles to this antenna - your new RF ground. Draw a line 6 degrees to this new ground until it hit the arc on both sides of the antenna. Notice where these lines hit ground compared to the original paths.

This is somewhat simplified but should give you a general idea of what happens.

In the radio trade this effect is sometimes used in order to drop signals in valleys that might otherwise have a radio dead zone.

Thanks,
OK never thought of that, both the paint and wear on the pole.
Great points.
Maybe I'll just sell the house and move lol....

Thank you Ozzie, that makes sense.
