I know someone here in town that only for a short while keyed up about 1400 watts and turned his neighbors temperature controled hot tub thermostat dial up over 110 degrees. It was kind of ironic but I had told him to have his neighbor turn it back down and as soon as he keyed it up again, the temp shot right back up. Here's to say he no longer messed with power like that though!! |

Barracuda, it is late at night. Why do you want to try to make my brain ( well it sounded good anyway! ), work this late? I can't figure that one out with a calculator during the day, much less at night! What would I punch in for microwatts on my calculator? I can't find that word on there anywhere? Keith |

depends on who im talking with. if just around local as low as i can get away with around 2-5 watts if its quiet. if not then i go to the low stage of my driver 10watts dead key and modulates 40-70 watts with "normal voice" and about 120 with a loud audio. if that cant do it i go to high stage of the driver 30 watts deadkey to 80-150 watts normal voice and between 200-250 with a loud audio. next step is the driver on low into the main amp for a real clean 1kw+ and then driver on high for 2kw+ but ive found if i cant reach them at the 1kw level i aint going to talk to them period as a rule. |

450 to 500 watts max on AM mode. I think that's a good all around power figure to have for consistant Dx'ing on a daily basis. Like Bullet says, if I can't talk to them with that, then I'm not talking to them. Then, I'll just wait for conditions, or "Mother Nature" to open up. Wolverine. |

Ask some of the guys on channel 6 or 11 sometime. There has to be stations on there running at least 10,000 watts. Many of them bleed all 40 channels and many of them have absolutely nothing worthwhile to say with all that power. mikefromms |

Those clowns can splatter me 20 channels each way sometimes!!! its nuts! I mean 2KW is enough for me at times although i dont run that much anymore... I side with Bullett if that cant get out then its not worth the bother! Ive talked all over the world on SSB and AM with what my 2995 does and what my old 2990 did into a moonraker 4 beam on the flat side.. |
