Hey guys, I just posted a note in a post and it made me wonder about something. What is the economy like in your part of the country? Down here in the south, it is still slow. Jobs keep disappearing to China, not even Mexico. I know the news media keeps trying to paint a good picture. But I can tell you from data I get towards the south, it is still slow. Obviously, that affects the foodservice industry, because if you are out of work, you will not go out to eat! Your thoughts please. Thanks. Keith in Atlanta |

California is hurting for technical area jobs. The only jobs booming right now are the construction trade area. Housing is booming here in Central California and people are buying bigger and bigger homes because the interest rates are so low. Running 5.75% for a 30 year loan. It was alot lower a year ago. The average 2000 sqft new home sells for $300,000. Gasoline is $1.60 a gallon here. |

Atlanta has always been know for the cheaper gas prices, due to lower state tax on the gallon. In last week, we have gone from paying high $1.28 - $1.32 up to we are now paying over $1.50 per gallon. this in less than two weeks. Who is kidding who here!! And I know it is worse in other parts of the country, especially Chicago and New York. I gripe to folks in home office in chicago about price of gas until I hear what they pay, then I still gripe. It still comes out of my pocket. And when you drive as much as we do in our cars, it can mount up. Oh well, at least I still have a job for now. I am very thankful for that!! Keith in Atlanta |

Slow here too, but Im a optimist. Like cali we lost alot of tech jobs to mexico then 9-11 there went boeing. Now mad cow! Since I live in rural america its going to roll downhill. Wish our gas was 1.60 were up 1.75 in some areas. But its against the law to pump your own here. Here's a thought HAVE WE HIT BOTTOM YET and on our way up? |

In central Virginia jobs are a joke, unless managing a company for $28K/yr sounds reasonable! lol Yep, an actual posting for a PLANT MANAGER (?? for a furniture manufacturer I think with 40+ employees) paying $28K/yr + basic benifits!!! That was my laugh for the week, then I cried! ;-( Being unemployed is no fun right now. Gas = $1.42/gal reg Milk = $3.29/gal Property Taxes: 55 cents/$100.00 property value and going up next year Health Insurance = $900/month family coverage Raising a 5 yr old girl: Out-of-Site but priceless! but pringles are down to 99 cents a can...WooHoo! THe local CB shop has a monopoly going in town and I am seriously considering giving his way overpriced showroom (oops, I mean his one shelf of radios) and his repair business a run for their money...A99's for $89.99 (that's w/o GP kit), DX-949's for $249.99, Cobra 29's for $179.99, etc. All I need to get is a fair quality service monitor and my workbench would be complete with the exception of schematics. 808, 307, techs..Any first-timers do's or don't suggestions are welcome if you have any! |

The economy is a little slow, but the job market is lackluster here in the Sand Pile (Jacksonville). But it should start picking up a tad with the Super Bowl coming here in 2005. Gas prices are running $156.9 and up, everything else seems to be holding steady. |

Terrible economy here, with the drought even agriculture is suffering, except for the dairies, they are doing ok. When I go into Roswell I see a lot of empty storefronts, the only place that looks like it is doing a booming business is Walmart. Gas jsut went up from 147 to 151. Sucks since it is 30 miles to anywhere from here, haha |

I got you beat PIG its 45 miles to wal-mart from here. As for radio's they got a little glass case at the truck stop. As for techs there's one other besides me but he does commercial stuff. All and all sounds like the whole US is in a slump but were surviviors so we keep going. I myself dont see anyone pulling us out of it thats running for pres. right now so we just vote whos best at the time. I'm not very political about voting a party so I just vote for who's got the best plan. Where's regan when we need him he was my president have the greatest respect for him and his family especially now during there tuff times, (his last days). Didnt want to start a debate but just spoke my feelings. |

Fox news stands in the middle of the road.....The only reason they seem to be to the right is that everyone else is so far to the left!! The economy is alot better than it was a year or even two years ago. Stock market has rebounded and thinks are gaining momentum. By the end of the Bush administration(2008)we will once again have a thriving economy Buck |

Well guys, if you look way back up in my post, I said gas had gone over $1.50 per gallon. Overnihgt, we are now into the $1.60 to $1.70 + per gallon here in Atlanta. I saw several today. If I have to put all my money into gas tank, I have none left to buy a radio or anything else. Thanks for your thoughts from different parts of country. Keith in Atlanta |

Western Ohio,What can I say,gas prices move 10 cents every Thursday and drop on Tuesday.Every local government in this area is laying off people and looking for new revenues. We laid off Police Officers and Firemen. The private side is slow but steady.Tech jobs are on the up swing, but like everywhere else manufacturing is all but gone.I noticed one post talked about the left Coast and houses costing 300,000. You can buy alot of house or a decent 150 acre farm for that here.Housing averages about $ 70 per square foot here. I can buy 2 3500 square foot houses with pools and an acre for that 300,000. |

Here in Danville, Illinois (125 Miles South Of Chicago) the economy is holding it's own. There are some limited manufacturing jobs (Quaker Oats, Auto Zone, etc) have plants here. I have a full time job as a broadcast engineer for a commercial radio station here in town. Gas is $1.62 per gallon, Milk is $2.39 per gallon. The only great thing about this area is you can purchase a ready to move into 2 bedroom home for $60,000 and a beautiful 4 bedroom for $100-125K. The cost of living here is cheap, but hourly wages are far below the national average. Just my 2 cents worth. 73's to all |

My Economy is fine! I get paid weekly all my bills get paid, both of my vehicals have gas in them Milk is in the fridge and still raising three teeneged daughters and I vote when its time to vote! As for the rest of the country they get what they get. When people wake up and and stop voting the same bunch of clowns into office it will start getting better, but as long as you keep looking to the government to make things better you will always have problems! |
