Name the model, the watts out, pill number if possible and gauge of power wires used.Up to 15 amps 14 gauge,20 amps 12 gauge,30 amps 10 gauge,40 amps 8 gauge;I have found a very short lead of 4" 10 gauge will work in a pinch for 40 amps in,I am just curious if other amp manufacturers skimp in this area,by changing out the 14 gauge and installing 10 gauge I picked up 100 more watts both am and ssb on my boomer 400,2.5 watts in d.k.235 watts out,535 avg. watts on ssb,so was it worth it or not? What is the db gain of 535 over 25?Bigbob |

Bigbob, What I do with the Larger AMP's and Wires is to Drill & Bolt Flat Blade Connector to board then add end to Wire and Crimp & Solder end on. |

Hoskinmage, Will try and explain this the easy way for everyone. Pill refer's to the Transistor's Used in the Amplifier or Radio. Galaxy 959 Mobile has one 1-2SC1969 Final / Pill for Power. ie: SINGLE FINAL RADIO The Omega Force S-45 Mobile has 2-SC1969 Finals / Pills for Power. ie: DUAL FINAL RADIO = More Power! Example's The Texas Star Modulator EX Plus Amp uses "1-Pill" a 2SC2290 = 1 - Pill Amplifier The Texas Star EX 250 Amp uses "2 - Pills" 2-SC2290's = 2 Pill Amplifier The Texas Star EX 500 uses "4 - pills" 4-SC2879's = 4 Pill Amplifier The EX 667 uses 1 - 2SC2290 driving the 4 -2SC2879's = 1 Pill Diving 4 Pills The Texas Star EX1600 uses 8 - 2SC2879's = 8 Pill Amplifier. Hope this helps. Lon Tech808

the term 'pill' comes from the fact that these trans in the amps look like large, round, white, 'pills'. this description also makes it easy to find these transistors in amps. |

bigbob, the db gain from 25w to 535w is a little more than 13db. |

>>how do you solder #2 wire on the circuit board,it's a half inch thick? And can you use stock strain relief?<< Typically wires from a 600-1kw amp are very short and suffincient to carry the load for that distance. You connect the larger wire such as 4 or 2ga with a distribution block or industrial forklift disconnects for most efficient and safest power transfer. |
