Theres a guy that i talk to that just got a Cobra 148GTL that runs it into a 667 v. The radio is LOUD!! Louder than his other ones as a matter of fact!!! I own a 29 LTD classic that has the big Galaxy finals in it and everyone says its louder than heck!! Why do the older Cobras talk so good? |

Cm3885, it was because Uniden made them for Cobra in the Phillipines. The 29 and Uniden 76 were the same radio, depending on which tech you talked to. UNFORTUNATELY, Uniden has now gone route of Cobra and closed plant in Phillipines. Look on the Uniden box and you will see Made in CHINA!! How SAD. I still don't understand WHY we cannot make these radios in THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! I will get off my soapbox now. Keith in Atlanta |

The older ones are made in the phillipenes. I've heard some that were made in the other countries that don't even compare to the older ones. I'm not exactly sure why the phillipenes sound better(in my opinion) but I have a cobra 29classic with a jp36 mod kit done to it and it smokes. I'll never sell or trade it. Any others know why the older ones sound so much louder on audio than the newer ones?? |

I have a few of the older 148 GTLs some were made in the Phillipines and a couple were made in Malaysia.......they are the same radio and sound the same. Even though the 25 and 29 GTL/LTDs swing way more than 148 the 148 is louder, why???.........I posted this question a while back and got no answers. I know at the Mobile Keydown contests Cobra and Uniden radios are the #1 favorite and the exports are rarely used. |

CM 3885, I also have a Cobra 148F GTL that was made in Malaysia. I found it in truck stop last year. Still new in the box, still sitting there collecting dust like so much of my other stuff. Anyway, I bought it as a collectors item I guess. Maybe in 10 years when I retire, I can find time to set it up as well and use it. Or will CB radio still be here then? Keith in Atlanta |
