Are you sure your antenna and antenna coax are ok? If they are not it can cause squeal and damage your radio. Also turn your echo off and se if it still squeals.

I'd start with the microphone. If you put an aftermarket mic on there, there may a loose wire in the plug. All it takes is one wire strand touching another pin to cause problems.

tech671,

what would the echo have to do with the squeal. i had a road king mic and i put a new chrome cover on it. but i didnt mess up the wires. could it still have messed something up? what if i didnt have the right power wire on it that came with the radio. cause the connex power wire is bigger than the cobra wire. and i have the cobra wire on it . cause i already had it ran in my truck.

dennis,

the cobra wire could definitely be your problem. i see power wires causing squeals in the export radios all the time. sometimes the power wire has many other pieces of equipment tied into it causing voltage drops. sometimes it is the binding post in the tractors that are dirty. and sometimes the power cord itself is just no good. the best way to see if this is your problem or not is to look at the meter light before and while keying the radio. if it 'browns out' very noticeably, then the power wire or the source it is hooked to is not up to par.

What the echo has to do with it is this:
If your radio hasn't been modified for fulltime talkback, the talkback only comes on when you have the echo on. Sometimes guys get "squeal" when they have the echo on because of the talkback volume. A good way to see if this is your problem is to turn the echo switch off and have someone listen to you on another radio to see if the squeal went away.

As 8541 said the Connex power cord is heavier with a larger fuse. In some instances a Cobra power cord can choke the current coming to your Connex.

Two other things mentioned earlier you didn't respond to are:
Is your coax in good condition and is you antenna set proplery (swr).

Any and all of these things can contribute to squeals.

dennis, your 1st step needs to be telling us what you have or haven't tried that has already been suggested. you need to tell us everything and as in depth as possible.

I had the same problem. If I tried to use talk back I would squeal like a stuck pig, especially DK 18 and swinging 42... ITS THE CRAPPY STOCK MIC...I bought an Astatic 636L noise canceller and all is fine

I got a new road king mic on my connex. i ran the right power wire this weekend. it helped out as far as the dimming in the signal light bar went. when i was runnin my power wire i noticed that my external speaker wire was runing right next to my coax. i moved it away and seperated them far from each other. was wondering if that was the problem? i tried the radio after i got it hooked up with the stock mic. it still squeled. but with my road king it doesnt squel but just a tiny bit and the end of the echo. so kinda stuck on what to do. i have done everything and thought of everything i can.? any suggestions???
