FOXRACING: Sincere apologies from a Californian that doesn't know SNOW STORM from SHINOLA! After watching the news tonight I see two people killed from being run over by a vehicle that couldn't stop sliding on the ice. Many, many bad accidents and airports shutdown by SNOW and ICE. Snow is to play in where I live... This place shuts down when we get 3 inches of snow... |

Well here in Northern Virginia the weather has been interesting. Sunday night the snow started and it was nice to see, fluffy snow like out in the Rockies not the wet heavy snow, good to ski in and easy to shovel. We got around 5 inches by the time it was over, then Tuesday early morning we started getting the freezing rain/mist stuff. The weather people and the media are just having a field day talking about all of the snow and ice they just get so excited about it, rather comical, and closings, wow, half of an inch and they start closing schools. Around here if we get any kind of “bad” weather it can mess traffic up so bad you would think the folks around here had forgotten how to drive or what to do. Be safe and Stay warm out there!! Oh yea don't forget to go to the grocery store and stock up on Milk/Beer, Bread/Pizzas and Lots of Toilet Paper!!! LOL!!! :-) TomCat CEF217 |

OK, It's funny to some (LOL!), but not to those who have to deal with it. Here in Western NC, the cold has been pretty bad. Below 0 in mtns, and here 20 F and 8 above wind chill. Snow is one thing, but ICE is quite another! We had about 3 inches of snow, sleet, and ice on top; the ice was/is about a solid inch thick. Now, you can say what you want, but driving on that stuff is not possible--4 wheel drive, FWD, chains--none of it will stop you from sliding. If you live in the hills, you know what I am talking about. Some of the folks up north make fun of us here in the South, but ice in the hills is a sure way to get KILLED! I don't care WHO it is! Anyway, the high yesterday was 25 and the wind chill was 13. Today we had a heat wave--32 degrees! LOL! And I am tired of being stuck in the house! No way to get up my driveway until today when I finally got out with a bit of shoveling. Rover |

Hey Rover, I work the western carolinas. I know what you mean. I have been all over the main roads and some back roads during that kind of weather. It is never fun. Last year was a tough winter in carolinas from November to February. Every time I went up there, whether Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro or Raleigh, I hit bad stuff, no electricity including trying to eat supper at Cracker Barrel. No fun for anyone when weather is like what it is right now across the country. Everybody hang in there. Keith in Atlanta |

Well, Bruce and all, I don't care what the temperature is, for me, when it gets below 40, I'm COLD! LOL! There is a mountain gorge about an hour away where the wind rushes thru with a vengeance! When the temps get into the teens, the wind comes down that gap and takes your breath away! WHEW! This is called Hickory Nut Gorge and is where the movie "The Last of the Mohicans" was filmed. There is a waterfall that is WAAAAAAY above the road in Chimney Rock village, NC, and I've seen that 400 foot waterfall frozen SOLID!! Hehe, I know a young girl from Boston, MA that thinks it can't get cold in NC. She doesn't believe me that a waterfall can freeze around here! |
