I have a mystery antenna that i would like to get some tech. data on as well as know what exactly it is. It is a groung plane style antenna with four radials that fasten tp the lower antenna mount. The radials are aprox 4ft. long with 6-8" wires on each end. At the bottom of the main mast is a red coil cover aprox 12-18" long. Dont know what is at the top of the main mast or how long it is because it is missing. I believe this antenna was made by Antenna Specialist and was called a Mighty Max, but cant find anything on the website. Any help on identifing this antenna would be appreciated. Thanks |

Comptech, it sounds to me like you have an old Antenna Specialists Super Mag or Super Magnum antenna. I had a super mag in the 70's and it was a great base antenna. Mine had two loops at the top, and the other one had four radials at the top. I hope I am remembering all of this correctly. I do remember mine had the two loops at the top. Keith in Atlanta |

I run a Pres. Madison radio. I use a 5/8 wave antenna. 213 coax. Over all showing a decent standing wave. Problem is that ant warning light keeps coming on in the radio. Ive taken the radio to a friends house and the light wont come on while useing his ant /coax. Can anyone tell me what is up with my junk equipment |

Sounds like the Antenna Specialists "Mighty Mag". Little brother to the "Super Mag".. I ran a Super Mag in the 80's. A good old ground plane. Only problem with it was when the sheet metal screw fastening the coil to the vertical element worked loose and caused a dead short.. Just replaced with an oversized screw and I was back on the top shelf.. |

Bluesman, sounds like the exact problem that is wrong with this antenna, other than the missing top sections. If anyon has any tech sheets or any measurments on this antenna, I could greatly use them. Thanks comptech@sunlitsurf.com |
