okay, so I bought a cobra 2000, and it was a total pile of useless junk. I drove to the repair shaop and has it looked at and the gey said it would cost 500+ to fix it! I am now looking for the LAST BASE STATION FOR A LONG WHILE! What do you you suggest? Would the texas cb base be good enough? I am looking for a radio with good recieve, and must be NEW
Thanks,
RSJ

Forget Galaxy, an get a RCI-2985DX, you will be glad you did and not much price difference.
I used to have a Galaxy-2517DX and ran it side by side with the RCI-2985DX.
Unless you really care about echo, the RCI-2985DX is the better radio. I sold my 2517 and kept the 2985. Just my 2 pennies

I think that guy wants your radio to. A friend of mine had the same thing happen to him. His wife did something to his radio and when he took it to get fixed the guy fixed it and charged him some rediculous ammount of money. My friend fought with the guy and told him he was out of his mind for trying to charge him that much. He actually followed the guy back to his house and threatened him, needless to say he got his radio back.

The dx959 is a good radio, but wouldn't be my first choice. I would suggest a magnum 257 or Omega force, a 2950dx, or a Lincoln instead. The Voyage vr9000 is also a nice radio for the money.

Of course all the above radios (except the 959) are not legal CB sets, they are capable of far more frequencies than type-accepted CB's, and they all generally put out about double the legal limit of power.

If you want a legal, type accepted CB, The 959 would be a good choice, as well as the Grant LT, The Texas Ranger 296, or some flavor of Texas Ranger 696 (There are several variations of that radio) All of these have SSB mode as well as AM.

If money is tight, the Magnum 257 is the best buy of all, in my opinion.

Look up the Name Skywalker975 in the Search Box or look for post's from Him in the CEF Area.

You will see the Contacts he has Made on the 959 and every report I have seen or when he talked was always Good Report's.

"Or drop Donnie (Skywalker975 or Steve (Ironmask) a Note, their e-mail address's is are in their profile for a first hand report.

Ironmask Always had good results with it and Skywalker is also pleased with the Performance.

It is a Good Reasonable Priced CB for AM/SSB Use.

It does not have a lot of the feature's of an Export but is still a good performing Radio.

RattleSnake:

I'm afraid I'm with FoxRacing on this one. SLOW down and take a deep breath! :) This hobby can be very expensive if you have to replace or change items because they don't work or do not fit together in the first place. Consider what your total budget is and see whether it would be better to wait and save the money for the better products. Did you ever call my neighbor about the tower or change your mind?

What is everyones defenition of "GOOD" when it comes to radios? Is it the fact that they have a lot of bells and whistles, a big meter, pretty flashing lights, chrome and or gold, lots of fancy advertising to lure the buyer in? I'm really curious. The Uniden Grant Lt is all the radio I really need. And it is the Best radio on todays CB market. It has plenty of punch, good audio tone quality, good receive, very durable, and a really fair price. The stock mic is pretty good at getting through pile ups. I use a Diesel 360-4 and have netted the best results with this mic. I've used the stock mic, d104-m6, astatic 575-m6, and a few other not so well heard of mics, and the Diesel takes the cake. The fact is I get better audio reports with this combination than I do with my Yaesu FT-757GX with the stock mic, and I've heard these before and they sound good. I know several other people who own the Lt's and LOVE them. Internally, they are pretty much the same radio they started out as way back when with the original Grants, unlike the Cobra 148 of today. I have found out many times over that the more does not equal the marrier in this world of radios. Sometimes fancy wrappers can hide a whole bunch of trouble on the inside. One of the best AM/SSB radios made was the Uniden PC-122XL. Of course good things never last and that radio was discontinued a few years ago. The thing that some people did to that radio to kill it's performance was put a power mic on them. With the modulation that radio had it was totally unecessary. This is just one example of a CB'er wanting to dominate the hobby by adding more things to improve the visual status and bragging rights of the radio station. I was once guilty of this. I guess that's what seems to matter most in this world we live in. I for one have found that the simple things usually work the best and for me the Uniden Grant Lt gets my vote for best CB on todays market!

Dude, Ill say this once, Buyer beware.. I learned the hard way many a times when i was your age.. But now that im older ive leareed a LOT.. If you ever buy another used radio -MAKE DARN SURE- to see it work 100% in person!! Have the guy or you talk on it on AM and SSB! Thats how i buy used radios from induviduals that i dont know. Never ever buy a radio sight unseen!!! If i were you send it to 307 or a reputable tech and not some rip off CB shop that just wants your $$$ and doesnt care about you any other way.. Or, save your $$$ and do it right and get a good new in box radio like the 2517, yeah it more $$$ but ill tell ya what man, you will not be happier to have that rig as your first real radio!!!!!!!

I would get a voyage or a 2950dx. Have copper do the mod for you and that way its under warranty. I have never been burnt doing deals but I ask questions but I did recently go to canada for a good friend of mine and have a chat with a fellow that never sent my friend his radio he had paid for but he was very understanding when I stood on his porch. He gave me the radio and I sent it to my friend.

You wouldn't have this problem at copper (unless you break a seal--LOL). You will like this place Snowfire.

Also, concerning e-bay, I got burned there once and I withdrew my registration and account and no longer use it. I believe it is a primary hangout now largely (not altogether) for people wanting to dump bad stuff on you.
