This week I installed a fiberglass shell on my 04 Ford Ranger, I had a 3-foot Firestik mounted on the bed rail, had good SWR and it talked and listened well, Its going to have to be re-located.
I was thinking about putting it on top of the shell all the way forward in the middle.
Grounding the antenna brackets to the truck frame and try and get a plane off the truck roof and hood. I’m running a Galaxy 95 T 18 feet of Rg-8x
Any Ideas?

Thanks Frank

Don't mount it on a fibreglass shell UNLESS the antenna is designed for that sort of location with a missing or remote ground. If you insist of mounting on the shell glue a 3ft x 3ft peice of aluminium (aluminum to the Americans) under the shell and drill the mounting hole trhu that.

However best bet is to remove the cab light drop the roof lining and mount it in the middle of the cabs roof.

I would suggest a Bumper Mount or a Side Mount with a Spring to mount your Antenna.

Which ever you choose be sure to make sure you have a good Ground from (Frame is best) to Antenna.

If you do Use a side Mount this is very important as the Beds on the Newer trucks are mounted with a Rubber Spacer between Frame and Bed.

Hope this helps.

you ay want to go with a wilson mag mount. THE BEST PLACE is on top of the cab of your truck. with the wilson you probably will NOT have to adjust the swr's. the wilson's mag mount's come in four models the little wil, 500, 1000, 5000
