Tech808,
It shouldnt if the radio is switching tx and rx properly as the speaker SHOULD be switched out before the radio goes into transmit mode.

In 30 years in the trade I have only ever come across that problem with a faulty radio. Now with Echolink thats a different kettle of fish - I'm still trying to work out why after several months my soundcard suddenly (and its seems irreversably) dropped into full duplex mode.

There is always something neew to workout and learn.

Ozzie,

My Mistake, I should have said without talkback, No.

It has been so long since I have worked or seen a radio without talkback I forgot how a Stock Radio is suppossed to perform.

If a Radio has Talkback and Mic Gain is set to high or Power Mic set too high then Yes, chances of feed back are greatly increased if speaker is too close and if Running Amp, Power Mic and Mic Gain wide open or set too high, you have a Greater chance of feedback.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

Thanks,

Lon

read somewhere that if you make a choke by wrapping the speakers wire around a small nail it will help with the feedback.....serious,,,tried this with the TR696 with an astatic d-10 and it seemed to help in my shack

Yes it will create feed back. And also if I am not wronge if you do have a power mic and if you do hold the mic in front of the speaker you can lessen the sqweelinggg if you turn down on the mic gain.
