I am running CHEROKEE 1000 driving a GALAXY 350 with 4 watts. When I put amp on low, the 22amp aupply draws 5 amps, when I put amp on medium, supply draws 9 amps, when I put amp on high or max and key up, the pwr supply chatters and breaker on pwr supply kicks out. What are the possible problems??? Thanks Dan CEF 274 |

I'm not sure what pills are in your amp but off hand I would say that it is not big enough to run it. If it is at all like a Texas Star 350 you will burn the supply up in no time. |

You need a 40 amp supply minimum for that unit! |

0661 Like Bigbob said you need a bigger power supply! There's a formula that you can use to figure out how much amps you need to run watts but I cant think of it right of hand! Take care everyone!Gage |

I know the formula and I can't think it either....but I will tell you this, as a rule, 10a per 100w..... |

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! A 50 amp supply solved the problem. A question though. On high power the amp draws 20 amps, my old supply was a 22 amp, why didn't that handle the 20 amps????? |

0661: Probably the difference between "surge" and "constant" amperage. I've got a Pyramid 46 that is rated at 45 amps surge and 40 amps constant. In other words, it will take a spike up to the surge amount, but constant level amps are lower. Hope this helps. |
