apparently i have a black cloud following me around. is it just me, or is anybody else having problems accessing pages and posting? first i couldn't access open forum from webtv, then when i viewed my profile, i noticed my email wasn't listed, so i put it in then got temporarily locked out until i got a verification number from that email address. i put it where it needed to go then with my first post i got a message saying my user name/password was invalid. so i went to the bottom of the page and deleted the******* that was there and typed in the same ******* that was already there, tried posting and this time it worked. im not intending to be a pain in the butt to the forummaster or anybody else, its just that it was smooth operating before the change and now its not. aj

Applejack,
Changing complex software systems is never a flawless process. I know that first hand through many years(decades) of trying. No matter how well thought out the change, how well executed the upgrade or what specifically has been changed, there are always what I call speed-bumps. These problems can also come from people getting use to the new manner of operation (no I'm not saying your troubles are your fault). The good news is that such problems are usually short lived, either because the software maintainer (forummaster in our case) finds and fixes these minor glitches, or because people adjust to the new software and get past the hitches.
From what I've seen of this particular upgrade, the benefits to the users, that's us, will far out-weigh the glitches. And by the way, you are not alone in the issues you've raised. I've encountered several myself and ForumMaster has either fixed them already or has taken steps to temporarily correct the problem until the ultimate solution is achieved. I too am having to adjust to the new look and feel as well, but again, I like the new features and don't mind the adustment period.
Hopefuly your issues will lessen with time and you will enjoy the new forum so much that when forummaster makes the next major change you'll make the same comments again (about everything being so smooth before...).
By the way, Forummaster, can you explain the classifications of member, junior member, etc. I can't seem to figure out what each of them is supposed to mean. Is it # of posts, length of membership, a random function? Clue us in please.

Status Posts
New Member 0
Junior Member 10
Member 50
Intermediate Member 100
Advanced Member 500
Senior Member 1000

It is based on the number of posts. When a "New Member" reaches 10 posts his status will change to "Junior Member". When he reaches 50 posts he will be upgraded to "Member".

The status names are the ones that came as defaults with the software. They can be changed to anything. I really think they need to be changed and am looking for discussion on this subject.

The number of posts it takes to reach a status is changeable as well. Those numbers are up for discussion as well.

THE MASTER:::

probably doesn't matter what you call us. If there is no perks or demerits associated with the title then you can call me anything, but late for dinner (supper? in your part of the country?)

This one is for the "FORUMMASTER"
The number of posts should have nothing to do with member STATUS and in my manner of thought is not a very good idea, some years ago I was a bench technician in a TV-radio repair shop in my old home area in Northeastern New York. I am 66 years old and have for the past 40 years been on the air, and also doing a lot of radio work, also I hold an amateur radio license, also a long standing customer of Copper. I feel that my senior years speak for my member status, respect where respect is due!!???? Yankee

Yankee,

First the status system is not something we at Copper wrote, it is part of the forum software package. What it keeps track of was decided by the writers of the software not by Copper. We can only decide the status names and number of posts to reach them. Our only other choice would be to not use that feature at all. If enough forum members decided they didn't like the feature we could disable it.

Second it is not meant to describe the status of a persons technical skill, age, standing as a Copper customer or level of ham license. It is merely meant to show the level of participation on the forum of the particular member.

Forummaster

I'm not trying to be a wiseapple but I have 59 post,so that means I would be a member?I realize that this is for fun.Correct me if I'm wrong.

Take Care Everyone!!Gage

Forum Master Note :
Your status is correct on this post. Everyone started out as a "New Member" when the forum software was upgraded no matter how many posts they had made. As soon as they make a post in the upgraded forum the program should adjust their status to the appropriate level.

One thing that has been bugging me is why list our user name twice?

It should read:

Wouldn't that make more sence?
