Mine was a little anemic modulation-wise on AM. I remedied this by turning the AMC VR up almost all the way, then got an Astatic 575m6 microphone for it for mobile use, and a Shure 526T for Base use. It sounds really good on AM now. The stock mic just isn't the greatest with these. This radio REALLY performs on SSB--people will ask you "What is that, a Kenwood, Yaesu, or what?" It has a terrific receiver with a pleasantly low noise floor. Down the road you might look into the "chipswitch", which is a replacement microprocessor chip that gives you memory channels, repeater offsets, and all kinds of goodies. Just ask Bruce, lol.

Hey there cornfed....If I were you Id check into the chipswitch. It really makes a great radio better. I run mine in the mobile and I love it. I use a Kenwood MC43S hand mic on it and get nothing but great reports with it. Its a darn nice radio thats for sure.

CornFed:

Great radio! I have talked with several people that were using that radio. All had clear, good audio. Come on over to Channel 38, 27.385Mhz LSB and give us a call. With THAT radio, you'll be able to QSY to an in-between freq. like 27.380Mhz where peace and tranquilty reign....
UNLESS KARATEBUTCHER is jawing with someone out East of us...:-)

Nope not mine Cornfed. I know what one you are talking about though...Im going to put a tower up this summer and add a small beam. What kind of work do you do?? Dont really know of a good tech in the area....There is a cb shop in Hazleton called "Giant Breaker". You might try them. I will try for you on Monday morning on 36LSB at 5:30....The locals run on 40 so I will slip down to 36LSB so I dont interfere with there important early morning BS. We have a couple of local checkins if you are interested....Sunday nights at 9 on 36LSB is the Eastern IA Net Check and Monday nights on 36LSb at 8:30 Is the MCS Club....Hope to talk to you
