I did a search on the forum but didn't find what I was looking for. So can anyone tell me about anything they have heard bad about this radio. I have bought 2 in the last week and both stink on side band.(IE. distorted, can't tune it in) I tried a different antenna and that didn't help, I tried a mic off of a galaxy and that helped quit a bit but still not perfect. It talks great on AM but sounds terrible on SSB. Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lazyboy

I'd have to be paid to take 1 of these radios again. As many problems as I've seen with cobra sideband radio's in the last few years, I am suprised to see they're still on the market. Save yourself a lot of headaches and buy a Grant.

Thanks for the info guys. I am taking the Cobra back and I ordered a Galaxy DX 959 with the peak and tune from Copper yesterday. Can't wait until it gets here so I can make some contacts on the net. Hopefully it will be here by next sunday.

I would have to agree with the comments here, I bought one but wish I had belonged to the forum then and asked a few questions before buying. Paid top dollar and got a set that wouldn't stay on frequency, often drifting off by as much as 300hz. Eventually got someone to sort the problems out butyou should not have to do this with a new set. Should have bought a Grant in the first place. Ibought it on the reputation that Cobra had with the 148gtl but Cobra don't make them like that anymore.
