In a shootout comparison which radio would be the better of the 2?
Ive heard people say the 2980 WX is better than the 2517 and vice versa. |

I have the 2980WX so far so good, talking local I have made 2 contact about 50 miles away.
And on the cef net the ones I have talked to said sounded great.
I have rci 2970,rci 2950DX and the 2980WX.They all work great just my thought's good luck on your choice.
I have never owned any galaxy I can not respond about those type of radios.

As far as I feel about the Galaxy DX 2517 it is a clean neat looking radio, it has the power to get out with the conditions, the recieve is really something to have, the transmit I am told many times is clear at times loud, there is a talkback, to check my mikes, there is the roger beep to play with, the echo to •••• of the truckers, built in swr, there are many reasons to have one, especially if the wife is not talking to you the 2517 will always be there. |

The 2980WX and the 2517DX both use the same board, so they should receive and transmit the same. The 2980WX does have weather, and it has a 6 digit freq counter, while the DX2517 does not have weather and only has a 5 digit freq counter, so in that sense, the 2980WX is "better". |
