All of has a bunch of money tied up in are hobbie. Tech 808 posted his set up in the Tech post under installations. Very imppressive i might add.I ask him what type of multi outlet surg protector he used? Tech 808 came back with a answer. Its one that has a breaker in it. Some of us has thousand of dollars in our hobbie and spend a bunch of money on grounding and buy a cheap surg protector thats a no no. I have to 8 outlet surg protector on a 15 amp wall outlet. it has a breaker built into it. line transformers do go bad and do put a surge in line and kills PCs every time.Them $15.00 or $30 will not do it i paid $60 for mine. Just thought this might help you guys protect your hobbie.

I agree 100% Hal.In my radio room alone I utilize 3 seperate surge protection/line filter power strips. An 8 outlet on the computer gear,8 outlet on radio gear and a 6 outlet on the workbench behind me.As Lon mentioned in his post, look for one that also offers an equiptment protection policy.Protection on these 3 in this room range from 15 to 75 thousand!

It does add up quickly doesn't it? My wife finally got me to list everything I currently own with approx value and year so if I kick the bucket, she'll know what it's worth... Shocking result to add it up.... $$$$

Wouldn’t the last line of defense be a good homeowners insurance policy? I know several linemen who work in this area, so I must ponder, for one of them to screw-up might be an act of God.

Our Surge Protector's also have the Phone/Fax/Computer Line Connectors as well as the Cable TV Connector's.

With the new BROADBAND Internet Service we have thru Insight our cable carrier, I feel much better with the surge protector's in line.

S2art,

We carry a Separate policy (Stated Amount) for all of the Shop and Personal Equipment.

It also states that it is Required for us to use Surge/Spike protector's on everything, Computer's, Fax, Printer's Radio's, TV's and Video Recorder's and All Radio's & Equipment.

We also update the Picture's of ALL Equipment & Radio's, every 45 Days to keep the policy updated, so that if anything does ever happen we are covered.

We take a Super 8 Video of Everything with That days Newspaper with the Date on it, and give it to our agent.

Insurance Companies DO NOT LIKE to pay out on Electricial Equipment of any kind and Hunt for loophole's.

1st Sargant just pulled the tape's out and they are TDK Hi8 MP not Super 8.

oh well getting old I guess.

Like two weeks ago when we went down to Visit Copper.

We took the Hi8 Video Camera, the Digital Camera, and a regular camera, and I even told them I wanted to get Picture's of ALL OF THEM TOGETHER.

On way back it dawned on us we were having SO MUCH FUN we forgot to even take 1 Picture.

We have done a Complete Set of House and Business Tapes. It Also make's it nice as we can just read the Serial Number's of items and it is right on the tape. And it also shows the Condition of everything.

Remember folks, it doesn’t take a direct lightening hit to take out your radio. I can testify to the effects of a sudden static discharge in the area that took out my 2510. I was alerted about an electrical storm moving into the area several years ago, called home and had my live-in girlfriend unplug all my radios. She forgot the most important one of them all. No direct lightening hits, but it caused considerable damage. I was also late for work the next day because she also unplugged my clock-radio next to my bed. Happy to say next girlfriend turned into wife and is playing with full deck.

Lon, Who sells this kind of insurance? I've asked around. I own an older mobile home, at present I have no insurance. Because companies will not insure a mobile home and insure contents at more than what my home is worth. Yes, I can get insurance but they only want to cover contents for $1000.00 and that wouldn't even begin to replace my ham gear alone. Let alone TVs, stereo equipment, and several vintage sideband CB radios and microphones, worth several thousands of dollars. Not even to mention my Craftsman tool chest and tools, Craftsman tools are now worth a bunch of money, Just one 5/8 inch box open end wrench with tax included is close to $10.00 at Sears, next time your in Sears take a look at some of the Craftsman tool prices. It will scare you when you start adding up your power and hand tools. Yankee

I hear that about static, it took out the recieve on my Yaesu 101, I too have three surge protectores, all with breakers. You get a direct hit, forget about it, anything else the grounding and surge protectors might help
