do the jp36 modification (set for 2w carrier or slightly less) and that setup will sound and work very well. |

find jp36 (a metal jumper) at the back of the radio near the final and driver. on the pcb side of the board add a 100-220uf electrolytic cap where the metal jumper used to be. on the foil side of the board add a 80-100ohm 1w resistor where the metal jumper used to be. this will give you a 1-1.5w carrier and plenty of swing to 'modulate' the 667. oh yeah, the negative side of the cap will point toward the back of the radio. i also recommend using a 25v or larger cap. and i'm calling it jp36, but i may be wrong. i have done so many that i am not sure of the actual board #, i just go to the location and do it. if i am wrong, i'm sure someone will correct me. if not i'll try to double check it at the shop tomorrow. you can also get creative and disable the pa/cb, ch9, etc switch and then use one of them for a high/low power switch. just rewire the switch so that in one position it is a dead short across jp36(just like the metal clip that was there from the factory) and this will be high power. when the switch is in the 'open' postion low power will be engaged. great for when you are not running the amp. you can do a search on the net that will give you the same info with some added steps and parts to substitute. i do not suggest doing anything more than listed above as the other steps increase distortion and harmonics. some steps also overdrive the final stage causing it to become unreliable with anything but a perfect swr. |
