Dcr,

WELCOME TO THE COPPER FORUM!

On the MAIN COPPER PAGE on the top right you will see:

Catagory Search

and under that you will see:

Scroll down until you see:
Radios-CB Base

and
Radios-10 Meter Radios

And you will be able to see all of the base Radio's that Copper has to offer.

While I have never personally used the DX2547 many member's have Posted Good Report's on it.

Depending on the Price Range you want to stay in the Texas Ranger 696F SSB Base is a Very Good radio with lot's of feature's. And esy to add extra channel's if desired.

or the 2995DX depending on what you are looking for.

Below is the Link for the Texas Ranger 696F SSB Base.

DCR, if you want a Cobra 2000 GTL, just get a 148 GTL and a power supply. It has the same stuff inside, minus the nifty frequency counter. If that is a must, grab and external freqency counter for like $50. Get a 148 GTL that was made in Malaisia. I think that was where they made them good. Do not get the newer ones, they are not as great. Get an old 148, and you will not regret!
The reason I give you so much information is because I was once in your place, looking for a base station, and kind of lost. I went through 3 junker cobra 2000s, and many "Soap Opera" episodes with sellers on ebay. lol.
I now have a Magnum 257 with 11 meter conversion, and am one happy camper. It has great ears, and talks like nobody'sbuisiness.
Also, don't be afraid to get a mobile radio! I was at first, as I wanted the big, huge, fancy looking radios and soon learned that they are not all they are cracked up to be. Dont get me wrong though, the Galaxy 2517, 2547, RCI 2990, etc. are all fabulous radios, and will be great IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY. If you don't, don't think twice about getting a mobile and a power supply.

Just my thoughts,

It all depends on how old of an older radio you are asking about, If you're asking about an export radio I'll not enter a comment, now on the older radios going way back the real loud radios were the President Washington with the UPD858 PLL or the old President Madison these two radios are one in the same just that the Madison has a clock. Other names that are the same radio are the Cobra 139XLR, Robyn 520D, Radio Shack Realistic Navajo TRC-457 and 458, all of this group of radios are close to 30 years old, but with some luck you can find one good one out of 5 radios of that age. Now on to the newer group of sideband base radios, starting at the top with the best is the Cobra 2000GTL, Cobra 142GTL, Realistic TRC-490, Uniden Washington, Uniden Madison, also a few President Washingtons were made with the MB8719PLL during the change over from the 858 PLL to the 8719 PLL, the only way to tell the differance between the 2 President Washingtons is to look at the PLL chip inside the radio, on the outside they look the same. There were a few other sideband 40 channel base radios made but don't often turn up on the used market.Browning Eagle mark 4 to name one, this radio still demands from $500.00 into the thousands of dollars and it is still only a 40 channel sideband CB radio.
One final word: KNOW WHAT YOUR BUYING AND WHO YOUR BUYING FROM. Yankee
