Purplehaze,

It is consdered an Import.

MODULATION: Adjust ~ VR-12 For maximum Modulation in the AM Mode

AM POWER: Adjust ~ VR-11
SSB POWER: Adjust ~ VR-8

Try the Adjustment's above and see if that help's.

Specs show: 10 Watts on AM and around 21 watts PEP on SSB.

If Not then it does have problem's.

Hope this help's.

Lon

The President Jackson is the worst export radio ever made......it is a dog at best. The Jackson's claim to fame was it being the first multi band export radio available in the early 80s. It is no way no how a talker, but in excellent shape it might be a collectable.

I was thinking the same thing.I've bought a Jackson new back in the early 80's.The only thing that went wrong with it is the meter light needed to be replaced.A great DX talker is right,If you can hear it you can work it.I have no trouble working European stations,I have worked Austrailian stations with my Jackson and a Wilson 1000.Not bad from the east coast with 30 watts. You don't see the high-swing watts or have the super loud audio an AM with a Jackson, if you want that get a Galaxy.

When the Jackson's first came out they were real popular but when the newness and incredible channel coverage wore off the audio was flat as a board. If you like weaker than average audioing radios that don't bleed the jacksons are OK. Most of the crowd that ran jacksons back in 1982 were not impressed, I remember that. I bought one new in 1982 for $260 and it was the worst radio I ever owned. Most techs will tell you the same thing, I would rather own a Cobra Soundtracker.
