Diggerodell,

GO to the Search Box and Type in: Connex 4800.

I have never used or owned one but from what I have read here on the forum, the people who own / owned them have been pleased.

Hope this help's.

Lon

Digger, There's a lot of em round here,& they certainly are loud on am with good, clear audio,Long as you dont run it wide open.
Those who own em round here swear by them,Most of them say they would rather own their connex 4800 than a galaxy,& I like the sound of them myself.
As far as breakdowns, Never heard any complaints on them.

Digger,
I run the Connex 4800 DXL in my mobile, have had it for a couple of years, love the radio, performs as well as any of my top end galasy radios ever did, and I think the recieve is more sensitive.

I like my 4800 but with the stock mike they lack oomph. I have a minuteman II on mine and it is stout.
1 gripe though, no variable power....I think that is inexcusable for an nice export radio.

Do you ever check your SWR's with the radio? I don't, so I changed the SWR cal dial into variable power.

I had one several years ago. Found it to be a real good performer. The only negative thing about it for me was the course/fine clarifier control. Course was open for transmit, but the detent in the pot was a pain in the butt.
I found a mod to open up the fine clarifier pot for transmit, which was good, or you could change the dual gang pot for one without a detent.
Otherwise, a very good dual final radio for the money.
