done some swapping to get this next to new Galaxy.Do have it in hand and used it on the net this past Sunday.Have used the older Galaxy saturn and Excalibur bases and and like the 2547 much better. This one has a Connex echo board that will be coming out,the "tech" that installed it pulled the v+ off of R64 which reduces the recieve when it is turned on.go figger.I checked the driver and final bias and they are at factory spec,50 and 100 ma.On my Dosy with front panel rf on max it DK's6 and swings 17-18,on min DK's 1 and swings 22-25watts.I imagine with those specs there has been some mild mods done.still has stock voltage reg and af transistors.one feature this and the DX959 have is the GNF which is usless to me(to much hearing loss),to me it sounds like I'm trying to listen through a papertowel tube.I do plan on installing a channelguard in both Galaxys, maybe then GNF will suite me.Also conidering the viagra B board for the 2547 and using the ch 9-19 switch for it.In my opinion this radio has a LOT of potential just waiting to be unleashed.as is its weakest point seems to be typical of most Galaxys, the clairfier!I am looking for any and all mods PROVEN good for this chassis.I've gathered from your previous posts that you have high regards for this radio and I would agree.have you researched dual finals for this and would that disable the front panel rf control?

Oh yes,

I almost forgot. Sorry to ask this, but do you have the equipment to do the alignments etc? A scope is a must for this.

Mike,I'll answer last one first,I dont own a scope anymore(ex-wifes property now)but can bring a portable from work whenever i need it.have the tone generator,VOM's etc.I already bookmarked C.B.Tricks Galaxy page when I got the 959.thats when i also found the Galaxy dual-final mod page.

I do have the owners and service manual for the 2547.best service manual I've seen since Sams CB series went out of print.dont plan to unlock the clairifier, dont like to play "radio tag".the problem I see with the clairfier,it works fine for strong signals but weaker ones get lost.Incidently, have one other radio had that problem and a channel-guard cured it.other than a "connexectomy",major surgery will be about a month or so away.want to be sure what I want to do to it.
Jeff, the Viagra B board I was refering to was not a power mod,it is a plug and play freq mod giving 80 additional channels for the radios that use the EPT069610Z Board.
I appriciate your replies and will keep you updated how things work out.73's

If I may;here's my 2-cents ya guys.I am one of those "unforunate" people who blew the PLL by doing the 10k mod.actually 3 of 'em! I even double
and triple checked my switches and they were fully functional, absolutely no shorting of the wipers/connections during switching.tried 3-different switches too!I finally replaced the PLL
and left out the 10k mod.working fine for now!
I tried the viagra board and COULD NOT get the
channels(frequencies)to line up correctly.freq.
counter on the radio would not correspond(line up) w/external frequency counter at all.close but
no cigar!I went w/the PLL jump mod for the extras.
Not as handy, but at least i was able to get it to
expand correctly.
channelguard;positively,absolutely,gotta have it
in my opinion! You will love what it does for this rig! I thought my rig was pretty good in the
RX department w/out it,BUT,simply fabulous after
I installed it.knocks down splatter superbly.
GNF(galaxy noise filter); I don't care for it in
the AM mode, but I use SSB 99.9% of the time and find it wonderful for that mode.Along with the
tone control, the GNF works great on SSB.
I really like the "S" meter reading up to 60db
over 9,and the "automatic SWR" feature is nice!
I find the stock mic not enough for the rig and
I highly recommend a good powered desk mic.I have
removed the (AMC)limiter and have no problems
what-so-ever! It just won't talk worth a hoot
w/the limiter in circuit, desk mic or not!?
I never recommend or prefer this method, but I just
thought I'd give it a whirl and it worked out fine for my rig.
In my honest to goodness opinion, this is the
best "CB" base to hit the market since cobra was
DUM ENOUGH to drop the 2000GTL!

SORRY;a heckuva lot more than 2-cents here!LOL!!
Kinda got carried away,but......

Dear Dindin,

I did forget in my post to add the fact that I too have done a few of these radios, and I have not had much success with the Viagra B boards either in this rig. Same problem that slim mentioned in his post. I have however done the P5 P6 mods to this radio several times with no problems at all. Extremely simple to do. And I might add, "Safer" than some channel mods out there. The freqs you might be missing with this mod isn't much, and to be honest, in my opinion, not really worth much anyway. AS far as the AMC cut. WEll, I never recommend that mod. I recommend 80-95% modulation on it and you will sound crystal clear. But I do know guy's that have done that. But that tends to make a radio dirty in my opinion. To address another comment that was made on here. I disagree with the comment "One of the dirtiest recievers in the industry." For the money, this reciever is one of the best I have come across. And many techs will agree that the "Dirtiest recieve" title goes sadly enough to a radio that is no longer out there. The Cobra 2010. Yup, Cobra's failed attempt at trying to give the public another 2000GTL. Sorry boys, You folks at Cobra were never even close. As a whole, sure the recieve could have been done better. But lets face it, the industry is now guided toward 10 meter. Ironically, a industry that Galaxy helped to create in a major way with their 10 meter products. But for a 11 meter, this radio rocks. And I firmly feel that for the money, it is by far one of the best radios anyone can own these days. Now, back to you Dindin:-) I agree with you 110% that the channelguard will cure that "lost transmission" problem. I personally didn't install it in my 2547, But the reason I didn't do it was because I just felt I didn't need it at this time. But I have done it several times to this radio in the shop, and it's a great performer Again, let me apologize for my long winded comments on here. I guess people can say I'm very opinionated
And I agree with you Dennis, the manual is fantastic.
