I want to put my i max 2000 in a 50 foot maple tree but im not sure how to make it stay up in the tree.on guy told me to get some U bolts and hammer them in over the i max into the tree.anyone know if this would really hold it up there?or is there another way? |

Freebird,
You can take a 5' or 10' Mast Pipe, Drill thru it 3 or 4 times to run LAG BOLT's thru it to mount Mast pipe to tree and then Mount IMAX 2000 to the Mast Pipe.
Or you can use Metal Chiminy Strap's to hold mast pipe on tree.
That way if you ever need to take the Antenna down it will make it easy, Just unbolt the Antenna U-bolt's from the mast pipe.
A Mast pipe also allows you to hook a ground wire to it also.

Thats a good way to do it.With the mast do you still use the u bolts to hold the mast to the tree?Chiminy Strap's dont sound bad but do you think they would hold it safely?I know radio shack sells the chiminy strap's.thanks for the info lon. ~frebird~ |

I have sheet metal straps around a pine tree holding my mast. Just put a long bolt through the holes and tighten till the mast pole is securer.

Great Freebird but you really need to do first is to put mine up first I think it might help you with yours my tree is 100fthehe..
Freebird let me no how it works??
and to the others will this keep stop some of the bleed over with close neighbors.

Another quick thought--I have see some pretty large beems in huge pine trees around here how in the heck did they do it has anyone done this before?

I've got a thunder 8 in the top of a pine. The guys who did it used a gin pole to raise it up.

I have my IMAX 2000 mounted to standard antenna poles. I guide it up the tree then use rope to tie the poles to the tree in multiple areas. Those poles can handle the weight just fine, but not the flex or bending action. By tying it to a tree every 6-8 ft, I have never had a problem.
This setup withstood two Tropical Storms within weeks of each other in Florida without problem. The tree takes the stress.
Climbing the tree makes it easier if at all possible. Here in washington, it's been difficult as the tree limbs start at about the 50ft range. My ladder does not go that high. It took some experimenting with guys but I have been able to support it by weaving lines around the upper portion of the antenna/tree and securing it.
It sounds idiotic but it's more secure than it's been in a while (just re-did it last weekend). I am content with it now, although in Florida it was a much easier setup where I climbed the tree and tied it off.
My antenna is 55ft to the feedpoint and quite secure.
Just another thought.
