Let's say you have thunder 8 up 71' at the tip. If you were to replace it with an Imax 2000 and g/p kit and the tip was 90' how would they compare?

Have fun....

I wouldn't waste my money on the GPK but the Imax 2000 is a great ant. It is one of the best I have owned and at 90'you will "TALK".That my .02 about it.

HMMMMMMMMMMMM, I would guess less than 1% of the Forum Member's have owned or used Both.

So for this guessing game, I would guess the IMAX 2000 and at 71' would not need the GP Kit.

Do I win a prize?

Yes, Lon. You win a prize. At that elevation, the GPK will make no noticeable difference.

Mike, the Imax 2000 at 90 feet AGL to tip will perform a little better than your Thunder 8 at 70 feet AGL to tip when the Thunder 8 is in omni mode. The Thunder 8 in directional mode will work a little better in two directions only. The Imax 2000 will perform better on skywave regardless of Thunder 8 mode.

I was wondering if anyone took the time to actually read my original post. This sounded more like Bible discussion than antenna in that the main point seemed to be avoided.

Thanks Tech833 for your answer. I think I deserve a clear answer in that I am a repeat customer of copper.

I have a guy coming to go up the pine tree where my Thunder 8 is and repair a wire that got tore off by a tree limb. Once that is done, I'll have him raise the thunder 8 up some more. If it ever comes down I'll probably replace it with an Imax 2000.

BTW, I thought the g/p kit would help the Imax 2000 regardless of height. Won't it reduce noise and static?

Mike,

I did take the time to read your post and it said: Have fun....

So me and the other's who posted did as you suggested and had fun.

Then you post:Hey this could be good....hello...I can't hear youuu.

This make's it hard to realize that this is a serious question and not a guessing game when you might find 1 or 2 people out of 2824 Forum Member's who read the Open Section who have ever owned or used both to compare them.

As you did not make this post in the Ask the Tech or Antenna area's your post appear's to be asking for people's thought's or guess's.

Don't be upset with the Forum Member's as they were just Having Fun as you suggested.

Lon

I cant see putting an antenna in a tree anyway,Antennas are for putting on masts or towers.I live in Wisconsin and in my 30 years of being around hams and cbrs,I have not once heard of any of them putting an antenna in a tree.

You should read the write-up that Tech833 did on the I-Max and the GPK in the Subscriber (Preview) section. Then you'll realize what the GPK is actually good for--if anything.

It certainly serves no purpose at the heights you are refering to.

Jeff.

Maybe I should read it again. I guess the take off angle becomes lower at the over 36 ft heights.

I had an old Shakespeare Big Stick (18' half-wave similar to A99) at the top of a 75 foot pine tree and it was awesome! After 3 years the top section broke off and I put a scanner antenna in it's place. Then I got an Imax2000 and put it on a 40 foot tower. It worked very well, but not as well as the old BigStick at 75' in the tree!

Now I have a place in the country and I'm going to start with a Top One on a roof tripod at around 30' and see how it does. If it works nice I'll keep it and give the above mentioned Imax2000 to the person who still lives at that location, in exchange for him helping me with the Top One install. Im going to make a sloper for HF bands that will be supported on the high side by a tall tree. Trees are sometimes very useful for radio geeks like me. :-)
