Which one would go further on Am (mobile) Magnum 357 or small superstar 122 with a Texas Star 400dx amp.. Any other Ideas.. I would like to get out about 30 miles on AM.. Thanks :-)

Cool_pr,

With us being almost at the Botton of this SUNSPOT cycle getting 30 miles is Tough anytime no matter how much power you are using.

And AM is Even Worse to try and make a good contact at that distance.

Conditions determine how far you can talk and right now they Stink.

I talked to a guy in Texas yesterday (I'm in Calif) and he SAID? he was using 12Watts SSB, but the antenna was a 4 element yagi, so like Lon said, the conditions have to be right. He dissapeared of the horizon in 10 minutes...

But, even tho the cycle seems to be going down, doesn't it seem like its unusually high considering where it should be, or is it just me?

I think it comes and goes. The last graph I saw showed it up and down in each year even tho the overall trend is down until 2007.
