I talked with KarateButcher for the first time today on a 2M repeater accross the Valley (150-180miles) I live in. After over a year of yakking on copperelectronics.com with him, I finally connected in person. He and I live in California, but we have never been able to connect on the radio. We talked while he was driving South on I-5 through the area. His voice sounds much YOUNGER than he really is.... |

Ca346 can you hit the repeater in the Grapevine? I can hit it most of the time and if I turn my little Yagi that way It might make it easier. Just a thought Bob |

I normally use the Big Bear repeater 147.330 at 131.8, but I can hit the Grape Vine repeater 145-330 also at 131.8. I've heard that people near Fresno hit it because it's up in the mountains not sure how far north it covers but it is up pretty high. It would be great if a few of us out here in Ca. could hit the Grape Vine repeater. |

Are any of these machines you guys speak of on Echo-Link? If they are I can talk to to you guys via Echo-Link as soon as you send me a private E-mail with your machine calls as well as your own calls. I don't post my call, but I will let you know who I am.I talk to KB on Echo. Thanks guys, 73 CEF-357 Carl |

Bob_P What is the exact name of the Grape Vine repeater you are referring to? The frequency and the direction of the offset and the PL? Are you talking about Ridgecrest? I've been fighting a computer virus yesterday and today.... |

Bob P, I have Zone Alert Labs fire wall and have it set on medium and Echo-Link works fine. I also have been fighting with my PC for about the past 2 weeks, but it seems to be running fine now. 73, Carl CEF-357 |

I am not able to hit a repeater directly South of me. I have a nice big mountain right behind me. I have been able to hit Bakersfield when I was using 6 Meters, but the 2M South is tough. I have used the Parkfield repeater SW of me and the Coalinga repeater SW of me. I have connected to the Concord repeater NW of me in the morning hours, but the heatwaves knock it out later in the day. I have yet to be able to use EchoLink because my modem speed is too slow, but I am within two or 3 repeaters here above me 10 miles (Fresno/Clovis, CA) that are linked. I suppose it is possible for a linked repeater to connect to one of these here? Without the computer? Linked repeater to linked repeater? Maybe someone can explain it? |

Offset is standard 60 and is automatic in my radio so can't help much beyond that. The location is the small town near the top of the Grape Vine I can't think of the name of it, but the info is 145-330 also at 131.8. Hope that helps Bob |

I found a listing in the ARRL repeater directory under San Bernardino County for Big Bear lake? 147.33MHz, input is + , and the PL is 131.8 as you said. Is that it? The call for the repeater is K6BB. Open sys, autopatch, linked or crossband system. |

Well, I guess that was a lost effort, Just checked the Echo-Link roster and the K6BB machine is not listed as a repeater or listed under links. Unless the trustee takes it down at night, it is not on Echo-Link. So I guess I will not be able to talk to you gentlemen in California. 73, Carl CEF-357 |

FYI, Yankee (and others). repeaters are NOT 'machines'. They typically have no moving parts. They are 'radio repeaters'. A machine has moving parts. Had to get that out of my system. Thank you for the opportunity. |

Geekster, A CEF echo link, link sounds like a good idea. First you have to buy the echo link board and set up as sysop, and then go about setting up a link. I would have to get the ordering info. from my friend Norman in Moore, Oklahoma n0els, Norman has had a repeater and a link on Echo Link, but for some reason they are no longer on Echo Link. BTW in the picture on your website, one of those guys has to be you. 73, Carl CEF-357 |

All it is here is thick smoke, Hellacoptors carrying water from the lake to the fire, the nearest fire to us should be out tonight. 2 meter SCARS group is doing a wonderful job running the Red Cross . Scalavation Army radio, and the main control at Shasta College on 146640, many homes are gone, especially in Jonesvalley right to the waters edge. |
